I'm in the process of trying to finish off my system, subs are the only missing piece. I think I have it down to 4 choices, but have not been able to listen to any of them in person. I'm looking at a ported box. Was wondering if you have any input on the following.... 2 SoundSplinter RL-p 12" with 1200 watts 2 Diamond Audio D6 12" with 1200 watts 1 SoundSplinter RL-s 12" with 1200 watts 1 Diamond Audio D9 12" with 900 watts I have only read good things about all these drivers, but I'm torn between doing 2 or 1 driver, and between SS or DA. Thoughts?
Forget soundspliter they suck. As far as Diamond audio. 1D6 will be loud but if you get 2D9 2times the cone surface area= louder. Hope i helped. thats just my $.02
Out of THOSE choices i would go for the RL-S. One thing i noticed though... i looked all throughout the pages that you posted , and i could not for the life of me find the materials list for those speakers. What are the surrounds made of, what material is the basket, too many questions unanswered for my taste. For instance: My Cerwin Vega! Vega series 15s are kevlar cones with triple-lapped butyl rubber compound surrounds. The baskets are carbonFiber-alluminum alloy. CV! is proud of that, so the information is widely available... those companies do not seem to list their materials list... what are they hiding? Just my opinion... unless i just missed it or something.
I did notice SS didn't have a whole lot of info on their page, could just be a poor page and nothing to do with the products though. DA has some info under the compare specs tab but still not much either. Seems like most people are suggesting 1 driver over 2 from the different boards I have posted on, but with 2 drivers I can add an extra 300 watts to them.
unless you are planning on competing in SPL contests or something.... forget about loudness. Start think sound quality. Unless you fire the subs correctly, you are going to be getting distortion that plays from each sub to the next. I would go one larger sub fireing up/forward, and two smaller subs off to the left and right of the larger one fireing back/side. Of course, it all depends on the size, shape, and type of trunk or hatch that you have. There are really alot of variables to take into consideration. SUM UP: You should probably just get one sub being driven 25watts under reccomendation. That should achieve good quality and SPL for day-to-day applications.
I will have 2 mid range drivers with about 150 watts each going to them in the rear doors, sub(s) in the trunk ported through the 6x9 locations in the rear deck.
WEll the diamond will take abuse the d9 is rated HIGHER than the d6 800 w nom, vs 600w. But I liked the d6 better in terms of sound. the d9 will play louder though
im down for the little guys. soundsplinter. but also look into ascendant audio, pierce audio products and elemental designs. all great people, all made strictly in the good ol US of A, and the price is right. diamonds are good but they are too expensive for what they are. do some research on the companies i suggested. im down for the little guys cause thats what builds America.
