I am looking at purchasing one of these cars in the next year or less. Opinions from owners? I like the idea of a turbo or supercharger...

keep in mind that i do not own any of these vehicles; i'm merely speaking from empirical data, which i've collected over the past couple of years...

well, i do think that the vr6 performs better than the 1.8t but, obviously, is without the turbo that you desire...

between the jetta and the wrx i'd definitely choose the wrx...that is, if you're willing to go without some of the "creature comforts" that the vw offers. if you want some serious performance and serious comfort, as well, then i suggest looking into an audio s4...sticker price is a bit higher than your two choices, but it could be worth it...peace

well, it just seems to me that the vw interior is more...i don't know how to explain it...well, you immediately get the sense that you're in a european car. with the wrx, it's more of a form follows function kind of thing...not that the interior in the wrx is bad, or anything....it's just a different approach, i guess...sorry, i'm kinda tired--maybe i could explain better later on...peace

    That's what I was saying, Mr T...

VW's look and feel more upscale..
There are interior considerations and niceties everywhere you look...

When you come up this weekend, I can take you for a spin in my wife's new beetle..
You will be blown away at what it comes with as standard equipment.. and we got a BASE model beetle! It has things that my totally loaded Civic doesn't have.. ;)

Not to mention the driving feel...
Again, a base model will be compromised a bit compared to the sportier or more luxurious models, but I have no doubt you will even still get quite a feel of what a little "german engineering" does for the road feel of the car...
    Seriously!

And I second the vote for the VR6, BTW.. I have a friend who had one.. that is probably my favorite motor, from any automaker...
Although believe it or not the Audi 5 valve 1.8t that is the other motor you are looking at is a close second place, however... possibly first if you do the chip upgrade..

I will give you a spin in the Beetle... bear in mind also that the Beetle is built off the Golf platform (it's practically the same car, different body), which is essentially the hatchback version of the Jetta... ;)

    No, spit it out...
Subaru interiors feel relatively cheap, cheesy and plasticky compared to VW interiors, across the board...

Of course, that is just my take, but it's one beef that I have always had with most US automakers (cheesy cheap interiors) since it is the place you are spending your time in the car...

I suggest you purchase a 2002 because the 2003 wrx's are going to essentually be the rally car they use and are going to shoot up about 10k in price but will be totally decked out with all kinds of added stuff including a brembo brakeing system ect.......

    mmmmm S4

    Well,

the police over here drive VW Passat TDi's (or those VW vans) for city patrolling and Volvo 850 T5 estates for chases. Since the Bora (Jetta) is just a Golf with a boot....

The VW Bora (in the US : VW Jetta) is considered a cheap family car in Europe. Bigger than a golf, but cheaper than an equally powered Ford Mondeo.

To return to the police statement : in some countries (like England) the cops drive WRX's for high speed chases.

Now go and get a WRX.

My dad has a Spider.... it feels solid as a rock (they always had style, but now the Italians are learning to build quality cars as well !!!!!).
