That is absolutely beyond awesome. Thanks for the link Scott. And the name is very perfect for it since it uses all those columns. But when Dan was down here, he said that this driver was going to use a different name. This is definitely a better name though.

This is making me want to cry for not being able to go to CES and see it in person. Oh well, hopefully I won't have to wait too long before seeing this true monster. :(

I am rather surprised about the use of the neo magnets. I'm guessing this is more marketed toward the home theater croud where temperatures are more consistant. So sorry Seth, but you may find loss of BL in your car after a while. But then with that pole piece fully saturated while being that thick, maybe you will just be losing motor strength that you will never be using in the first place.

How many people think this thing will be banned from SPL competitions? Anyone think Scottie can beat the competition with these things by 10 dB? I hope he got stronger doors. :gunsmilie:

Did you see this motor is capable of having a 48" x 48" cone??? :jawdrop:

That much displacement gives this driver unimaginable capabilites... like 430 liters of displacement

I wanna see what these things can do in a All out SPL car like Nate Munson's. It definitely has amazing potential to do amazing things in SPL....

I'm sure they'll eventually ban this in dbDrag ;)

    :ban:

I hadn't seen that (thanks, Scott!!), but actualy Dan and Chris B had drawn me a sketch of it at SEMA. Definitely easier to visualize in the photograph, but it's amazing how much it looks exactly like what they had drawn that just didn't seem to make sense on the back of a napkin.

And Dan had commented something about hooking it up to a 24"x24" panel for CES... a 48"x48" one would be impressive indeed!

Can't wait to see... er, hear... er, FEEL it go at CES! B)

    I'll have photos..

Oh, actually he says 24" square panel on that page... so that is going to be what is at CES.

any word on how much power this monster will require? Not only will it cost $5000 for the sub, but also another $5000 for an amp(s) to power it.... :(

    Thanks, Michael.

Crunched some numbers on the open-baffle Parthenon here.

with the thing sitting on the floor, wouldnt there be some amount of gain from the reflection off of the floor?

    Dan said:
Call me a stickler, but it sounds to me like he's ruling out all forms of image reinforcement (same as room gain) and claiming a free-field response. Big SPLs at 20Hz are notably hard to get from an open baffle. For example, if you want 121dB free-field at 20Hz on a 24" OB, and you have 4kW of amplifier to power it, your driver better be at least 102dB/w efficient at 20Hz!! (of course, my math could be way off, but no one's pointed out any errors yet...)

Don't get me wrong: I'm just as excited as the next guy to see big claims, I just thump on them first to make sure they're solid... :boxing:

    Bill...

I want to give you a big hug. B)

You are (and I say this emphatically) the man.

While I'm just sitting here looking at the pretty motor, pondering the impressive numbers...
You are already running simulations and calculations to try to see how close you'll land your estimation with respect to how things really turn out. :detective:

Maybe it's just me, but I think that's one of the coolest things, coolest "hobbies" I've ever heard of.

Hey, you really nailed it close with the Brahma... and you were armed with less information, honestly, about it, right?

Bill, good to see you back. Please don't be such a stranger.

I read that last post and I must say, you do bring up some interesting points. I am interested in hearing Dan's input on this as well. My assumption is, as you pointed out, that the levels refered to are theoretical in a totally optimal setup. I don't think you or I could expect #s like that in our home theaters (good God, so loud, so low, we may blow window seams in the fouse :) ).

Umm, on another side note. Where might I know you from? When I saw your name over on HTF it struck me as strikingly familiar. Deja vu even. What do you do for a living, where have you lived etc.?

Whoa, hey... Uhmm, Chris please. Forwarn us all before you attempt to molest the poor guy in public :p
