Currently the door speakers (6-1/2) in my KIA sportage are flush mounted in the door. The facory speakers were 4" and had a plastic ring that is right at 3/4" thick moving them closer to the door panel.

If I made a 3/4" spacer out of MDF would that give me better sound and a little more volume since the speakers would be closer to the ears?

.75 inch difference would not make for a better sound at your ears... period. Might think about sticking some sound deadening to the door panels instead...this would yield better results.

I figured it probably wouldn't but it never hurts to ask :D

What sucks the most is the factory speaker location is at the very bottom of the door panel right by your feet. I would love to move them but there is not room anywhere to move them to.

best thing to do is tilt the drivers towards your ears with the availible space you have.... the more on axis to your ears the better...especially with the high frequencies....
