Calculating port length

    Hi everyone

    I've been doing a fair bit of searching, and I think that the correct way to measure port length, is along the red line:

    Did I get all of my red lines correct :confused:

    Oh, and I assume that if both sides of the port openings were flared, instead of just one as shown in boxes C and D, then the measuring point would not change for C or D?

    Looks good to me. I do make a minor change for sharp right turns (example A), I add an extra inch.

    I have heard of this but never implemented it into any designs. I assume it is due to velocity and turbulance factors in the airflow.

    And ya...the redline is the right line!

    I thought port length was the length of the actual inner piece of wood

    For sharp turns your probably much closer to right than I am. Many professionals do NOT include any part of the length of a sharp turn (which is what your doing by only including the inside part). So I might agree with you. But for gradual turns Figures B, C and D are correct.
