I've got a Pioneer GM-D8500M and two subs, one MTX and one Autobahn, both 12". Anyway I've got a 2006 Chevy Malibu with a Kenwood DNX-6960. I bought the amp and 2 subs last night of Craigslist and the guy gave me all the cords but no fuse. I've noticed all the amplifier instillation kits on the internet give you a fuse and my friend said I would probably need one. Where can I find one and what do I need? My amp has 2 30a fuses on it. Thanks guys. Also, my box has no holes in it, I've noticed some do and some don't but should I cut one in my box?
1) amp fuse- yes if you have two 30 amp fuses in the amplifier you should match that and go with a 60 amp inline fuse within 1ft of your battery. no further than 1 foot. 2) its not just a hole in the box, it is a port. ports must be tuned to a desired frequency. if you want nice clean tight bass, leave it seald(no hole) if you want nasty hard bass you will need to port it. if you want to port then mesure you box ( length, width, and hight) and punch them numbers in a subwoofer box calculator (google to find one) then google port calculator put what ever volume your box is in, then you desired tuning frequency ( most people go for ~35) the higher the tuning number the more bass you get. ( go no higher than 40 hz) and the lower you tune the tighter the bass. and most people go with 4" diameter pipe or bigger to reduce port noise/turbulence.
I have to interrupt but you don't use a 60 amp inline fuse on a amp that draws 60 amps (at full power). The inline fuse is there to protect the WIRE from a fire If it is 8 gauge wire, 100 amp fuse 4 gauge 200 amp ANL fuse 0 gauge 300 amp ANL fuse Everything else is correct connerray2010
Well the new wires I just bought are 4 gauge and the inline fuse is 60 amps. The ones he gave me had no in line fuse and some of the rubber was stripped off the cords so I just invested in some new ones. He said when the subwoofers would bump his lights would dim, that sounds like it could cause some problems so that's why I looked into the fuse. I'll just leave the box alone and sealed, I was just curious as to why some have the ports and some don't.
The lights dim when the subs hit because that is when it is drawing the most power and the alternator can't keep up. You would need to install a capacitor, or possible a high performance alternator to take care of that.

Do I need a fuse for my amp I am getting rid of one of my sr124s to try to clear some room. I want to go with one Sr124 SVC in a sealed box but need a good amp to power, any ideas? I have been looking at the Alpine PDX 1-600, Jl Audio 500/1, and Eclipse za1200.
