I just put a Kicker L5 12" sub in my Ranger extra cab, and it doesnt blow up my truck with bass like i thought it would. Some people are telling me 2 10's are a better idea for a vehicle with a small cab. Is this true? Would i be better off going with 2 10's instead?
What are you powering it with? What type and size of box is it in?What are you looking for in sound(just to be loud or sound quality)? Please list models #'s and specs to further help you out.
Im using a MTX jh600 amp. I got the sub already in a vented box made by kicker (08VS12L52). Im want to have good sound quality and be loud at the same time. right now you cant hear my sub from outside my truck as much as you can normally with 12's. I am having some problems with not getting enough power to my system, but my sub is still pretty loud inside the truck but its not over powering my small cab like i expected. My friends 200 w powered 12" sub in a bandpass box inside his civic is way louder than my sub. and another friends 2 10's in a sealed box in his jeep trunk is also a bit louder than mine. you can hear their subs from inside your house when they are outside. i have a better amp, sub and more power than both of them yet its still not as loud.
well you cant compair 1 12" to 2 10". cause 10x2 is 20. so you are puting a 12 up to more less a 20 and the 20" is going to win. what size enclosure are you using? mak it aslarg as possible and tune to 32-35hz. iv heard the boxes kicker come in are trash.
There is this thing called transfer function, or some call cabin gain, in a vehicle, Due to the length and shape of a truck cab, the same woofer in a hatchback will always "hit" harder. This is due to the acoustics of each individual vehicle.
THis is not quite right conner..... It would take about 5 1/2 10 inch drivers (give or take, I aint doin the math on it right now) to equal a 20 inch driver.
What is the big 3? I am using the box made by kicker, and it is big for being in a ranger. if i can take the L5 out of it and put it in a smaller box, what kind of box would be a good choice? This setup makes the bass sound kind of "spaced out" and not really accurate. So i would like a box that makes it sound more accurate and sharp. Has anyone tried 2 10's in a small truck?
big three, google it. for tight and accurate bass , sealed or ported tuned to a low tuning (your box) if sealed there is no tuning, if ported tune your box to about ~32hz. (most people are happy with this tuning for good "sq")
you have a good sub. no need to go out and spend more money. most likely the enclosure its in is the problem. how is it facing? can you post a pic of how its set up. you would be surprised how by just turning the box around will make it sound. now if you don't want to deal with ports and tuning and the like you could just go with a sealed box. how much room in the back are you willing to sacrifice? i have a friend with a new extended cab ranger, his set up is sub up port firing towards the drivers side. sub is behind the passengers seat. no back seat anymore.
I've done 2 12's, in a single cab s10 extreme, I've also done a 15 in the same truck. both were very loud.
Before i had the front facing the back wall and the port facing out towards the driver seat, but it sounds a little better now. theres probably 5" between the port and the passenger seat. would it help if theres nothing in the way of the port?
I've had the best results facing the sub and port towards the rear, but when you have a prefab box you get what you get.I'm guessing the port is on the left side when your looking at the sub.The only ext. cab I had,I used a bandpass box, maybe look on you tube or something to see how other people are setting up their trucks.
i think it will be ok. as long as it sounds better to you is all that matters. how many diff angles have you tried?
