Hey guys I currently have 2 Rockford Fosgate Punch Ps3D412 12” Dual 4 ohms Shallow mount subs installed in fiberglass pocket enclosures, and they suck. Given my amp specs, and enclosure info(depth, airspace, etc), can you recommend subs for me? I know that with that little airspace my options are limited. I looked into Stereo Integrity | SI BM mkIII but when I asked them for feedback on my application, here was their response: So now I'm looking into either: Dayton RSS315HO-4 12" Reference HO Subwoofer 4 Ohm Or Lanzar OPTI1224D's wired to 1ohm and adding polyfil to make up for the approx .12 difference in cu ft. Here’s my amp and enclosure info: Amp-Alphasonik PMA 1000DA: • 1000 watts x 1 @ 4 ohm mono • 1500 Watts x 1 @ 2 ohms Mono • 2060 Watts x 1 @ 1 ohms Mono • Variable Low-Pass Filter: 50Hz - 150Hz @ 24dB/Octave • Variable Subsonic Filter: 15Hz - 40Hz @ 24dB/Octave • Variable Bass Boost @ 45Hz: 0 - +18dB • Variable Phase Shift: 0 - 180° • THD: <0.08% • Signal-to-Noise Ratio: >100dB • Frequency Response: 5Hz - 250Hz Fiberglass Speaker Enclosures Specs(see pic): • Product dimensions: 750x450x250 mm. • Appr. Airspace: Rt- 0.65 cu. ft. ,Lft- 0.71 cu. ft. • Mounting Depth: Rt- 7.2 in. Lft- 8.1 in.
Check out the new Alpine shallow mounts. Car audio electronics had a good write up about them. There is also an article in the reviews section in this forum. It was posted just last week http://www.caraudiotalk.com/audio-forum/showthread.php?p=86876#post86876
Thanks Monster, I'm a bit confused by their power rating: * 300-600W RMS * 1800W Peak Power Is it 300 or 600 RMS??
I'm soo torn because the Lanzar's can handle my amps power and only require slightly more ft3 which can be made up with using polyfil I'm sure, or I can go with something like the Type R shallow mounts which are pretty close to airspace match, but can't handle my amp. So I guess the question is, is it better to have subs that call for a little less airspace than you have but can't handle your amp, or subs that can handle your amp but require a little more airspace that can be made up with polyfil?
type rs will take way more power than lanzar will. i 100 percent guarantee it. lanzars kinda like pyramid. i think the same comapny owns them
So the 900W RMS the lanzars quote is bs? The Type R's claim 600W RMS. I've pretty much eliminated the lanzar's at this point, now it's either the Typre R's, or custom subs from PSI.
On the mounting depth is that the depth of the box when inserted into its location or the depth of the sub that it can hold? Whats the max depth for a sub. I can look around if i know what the max depth the box will support. What about budget? Did u see these. If you can make the hole a bit bigger they might work out. Not cheap though. http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_20858_JL_Audio_13TW5-3.aspx
Yeah i saw those, but the Alpine SWR-T12 look a bit better than those and go for about $300 each. I'm pretty sure that I'm gonna go with PSI custom build subs though, about 1000-1200 RMS, Platform 1 motor, dual 1 ohm 81mm extended voice coils, dual 8" soft spiders, sewn leadwire, 12" heavy duty cone assembly, and 6" poly dome cap.
i seriously doubt the lanzar would last 900rms for more than 1 minute but i could be wrong. ive always been told they are made like pyramid and them other cheapies. alpine tends to underrate there stuff. my buddy has 1 type r on a rockford 1000rms amp. and it bumps
If Lanzars are like Pyramid, then I'm sure they are waayy overrated. Ever see a NIB Pyramid at a flea market for $40 that claims 1000watts, the size of tissue box, and light as a feather? Think that is a good amp??
