Viking Project on the cheap

    Additional note on the highs....


    I just remembered that I still have a set of Orion NT 4 incher mids (made by A/D/S) and an old set of morel tweets...Hmmmmmm? Being the cheap basterd I am...might use them.....Will need to do some research on the tweets and mids....Wont have much in the upper bass, but some creative x-overs and a bit of equalization may do the trick...

    Works for me, so lets use 3/4 for the baffle. An inch for excursion will be perfect and the SWS will use way less internal space than a conventional woofer. Thats a thin box but the SWS will fit, no problem

    Can you get 5/8-inch? I guess 1/2-inch will work, make sure its braced well.
    Do you remember how to build a box????:lol:

    I can get whatever I need for a box... Just glad my Father has one of the most complete woodworking shoppes around...would make Norm jealous! Think i can remember how too turn a table saw on.....LOL

    OK...I am lazy here...did you send me a link to the woofer on this thread? Wanna check it out....

    The president of the company is Joseph Sahyoun, and he is one well informed person. I had a long talk with him about box design. I learned alot. I really like him, but his tech deptment is not the best. He knows way more than they do

    But this sub is rated for 400 watts and my amp will do 500 watts... Surely I will blow it up!!!!! LOL!!!!!

    Seriously though....I could not find a link to the T/S parameters....Would like to play with this sub in the program a bit...

    Also might look into finding an OLD Orion XTR IB sub...They were developed for infinite baffle use...but worked AWESOME in extremly small enclosures... I have also heard that JL has some subs that fit the bill, along with many others..

    Lots to filter out here...

    I have seen you reply to this thread more than others....I would like other folks on this site to also put in there 2 cents...It would be appreciated ....

    Granted..between Ranger and me we have alot of experience..but I am old school, and out of touch with the new stuff.

    Two JL Audio 6W3 woofers in a 6.5 x 6.5 x 20 inches (approx) box will knock your socks off, but they aren't real cheap. People who heard them thought they were 12's.

    I'm running 2 e3.6s in a small ported box under the back seat of my truck and they have surprised the heck out of me. I've had quite a few people think I had 10s or a 12 and they sound very good, to me at least.

    e3.6......? Who makes them? I am not familiar with the model number. I have built many a box utilizing small drivers that yielded phenomanal bass performance.


    Another thing folks....Any reccomendations out there for a reputable repair facility for my Orion 2125 SX incase I want to use it?

    R bass shakers an add on optio?. Put a pair under yur seat/bench. That will help the old lady feel the bass. Just a thought. :)

    e3.6 is elemental Designs.

    I don't have any pics, or I haven't found them yet. But it's nothing fancy, I'll try to get some pics soon.

    Emailed them...they dont work on ol' Orions....I will check around some more...thanks for the idea though.

    Didnt find a site called zed for repairs.... found a few others that i have emailed.


    This weekend, me and the lil lady are heading to joplin finally to check out some component speakers at Best buy and also at a car audio shop called "creative car audio"....never been there.. we will have a look and listen to see what fits our budget and our musical tastes.

    Went to a car audio shop in joplin mo. today. listened to a few component sets they had. JL, Kicker, and Clarion. Didnt have a huge assortment. Anyway, me and the little lady both agreed that the SQ of the Clarions and JL's was the best. I forgot to bring some reference music, so had to listen to what they had. Overall, I thought the Clarions had the better highs, the JL's the better midrange. Still need to shop around for highs. Also looked at a few subs, only had Kicker and JL. I only looked and didnt listen at them. They had a SUPER thin 13 inch JL which would be ideal for this truck....but at 300 bucks....nah....I can do better than that i believe with what Ranger was discussing. And head units!!! WOW. way to fancy for me anymore! Give me an anolog volume knob...on a potentiometer, someone...PLEASE!

    Amen brotha!

    I HATE the Jog/Shuttle type knobs. At least I have a remote though so I don't have to mess with that dial while driving.

    A good set of Infinity Reference Speakers (REF6032SI) will do what you need. And they are 2-ohm so you will make the most of your power.

    Excellent 6-1/2" speakers. They work well with factory Infinity system in my Dodge Durango. I was concerned that the high priced 2 ohm factory speakers were the only ones available, but the inexpensive infinity ones I ordered for the rear doors sound great. When the wiring adaptors that came with speakers didn't match the factory wiring, I called Crutchfield and the Tech (Jason) took the time to send me a couple pictures via email, then matched up the correct ones. He send me out the adaptors and they fit perfectly. Now, the only problem I have is the front factory speakers are being outdone by the new Infinity rear ones. I am thinking about buying another pair of infinity speakers for the front doors! Good purchase.
