I used to have two of these. Wish I still had them. Best car amp ever made, in my book:

There appears to be a modern version of this by Luxman. Alpine and Luxman were associated in those days.
    $3999.99

    Specification
    • Continual effective ability: 100Wx2ch (4 ohms) 400Wx1ch (4 ohms and MONO) / 1600Wx1ch (1 ohms and MONO, instant maximum)
    • Input sensitivity impedance: NORMAL (LOW) 0.5V/20K ohms (HIGH) 2.0V/3.1K ohms DIRECT0.5V/25K ohms
    • signal-noise ratio (rated output): Above 110dB (IHF-A revision and input short circuit and DIRECT)
    • All the harmonic distortion factors: 0.005% or less (4 ohms, 1kHz and DIRECT) 0.008 or less (4 ohms, 20 - 20.0000Hz DIRECT)
    • Frequency characteristic: 20 - 20,000Hz (+0, −0.2dB and DIRECT) / 5 - 100,000Hz (+0, 0.2dB and DIRECT)
    • Damping factor: 100 or more (4 ohms, 1kHz and DIRECT)

Yeah, PPI is awesome stuff. I had an A600.2 back in the late '90s. Wish I hadn't sold it years ago. I still run my old Crossfire 1000D, though. :D

PPI was an offshoot of Fosgate. Now it's owned by Directed Electronics.

PPI Was a good amp...fosgate, orion, ppi...all in the tempe area... Was at fosgate and orion back when they were THE THING to have... I never did like it when they went to the "ghey" paint scheme....

Who remembers the power 650 and power 1000 from fosgate? I had one of each...and what amps they were!

They were all in the same area because Orion, like PPI, was also spawned from Fosgate.

I remember well when Orion introduced the HCCA red amps, quickly coined "Cheater Amps". They were because competition rules positioned contestants into power categories based on the amplifiers' "4-Ohm" power ratings. In those days, pretty much all amps operated at 4 Ohms. Orion introduced those ultra high-current amps so people could get into a 150-watt class while actually having over 600 watts. It was obvious that a 3 foot long amp wasn't just 25 watts per channel. They made a name by winning SPL contests (obviously).

That same year, my partner and I attended the CES convention in Vegas. We carried HiFonics at the time (when they were good USA amps). I talked to the designers at their booth (I knew them already) and told them about Orion and told them they should make high-current amps too. They soon came out with their "Platinum" series of amps, a high-current line to compete with Orion. I like to think I had a hand in their decision.

As long as we're discussing beasts, take a gander at this U.S. Amps monster we have in our store. Note the CD and JL Audio 1000/1 amp for scale.

    Power?

    200 x 2 @ 4 Ohms
    800 RMS Bridged 4 Ohms
    1600 RMS Bridged 2 Ohms
    2400 RMS Bridged 1 Ohm

I had two Orion red HCCA 25.2 pushing 4 Pioneer IMPPs. That **** hit 141 db consistently. My next system I had a Hifonics Colasus. 1000 watt amp. 3 feet long. The original Colasus. It was a beast. Man I miss the good ol days. LOL.

Yes, the Colossus was basically two Zeus amps in one chassis. It was 600 RMS per channel and about 1800 watts bridged (4-Ohms)

big old amps are cool.... this is a great thread!

I know we all dont know the EXACT length of them, but we try.

I had a few old 2100 HCCA's years ago. did a lil mod to them, a simple diode change in the power supply...and you had virtually an unlimited amp.....had to run em careful...VERY powerful.....but........would go up in smoke ina heartbeat if driiven too hard! Kind of like a Funny car in the quarter mile....

    The 225 HCCA....what a freakin POWERHOUSE! a 50 watt amp....and it sounded like a mark levinson.....

I don't want to be left out! I can't seem to find a pic, but I used to be pretty impressed with the Harman Kardon TC600. I believe these were out just before the RF Power 1000.

I used to have one of these.....Orion 500PMQ...

    http://www.modifikasi.com/showthread.php?t=191442

    Regret getting rid of it.....

It only worked on old Orion or PPI amps with a DIN in put or with an outboard phantom powersupply..

I still have my lil 300 PRQ though..its in my Ram!

I also still have a first generation Rock Fosgate Punch 45! Although I believe it is no longer in operation! LOL! I remember years ago doing 2 or 3 sytems..."the rockford way". Thats using one punch amp. either the punch 45, 76, or 150. One amp would run 12 speakers. mid/tweets front and rear, and 4 subs. All using passive x-overs. Results were spectacular!
