    Hey everyone,

I've been looking to upgrade my system and recently bought two 10" L5 Kickers. They're 2 ohm DVCs and each give off 450 rms. I have a single cab truck and therefore not much room so I had to make my own boxes to put each sub behind the driver and passenger seat. Since the boxes are small I utilized polyfil. They're currently hooked up to a crappy off-brand 200 watt amp that definitely gives the subs a nice kick but no where near what they can really do.

I'm interested in what I should I be looking for in an amp. I've been looking around here and a bunch of other websites and have the basics kind of understood but would like to have some opinions about my situation. I'm on a tight budget but am still looking to get the most I can out of these L5's.

Also I'm trying to determine what would be the best way to wire the subs for an amp. Is a higher impedance a better thing or vice versa?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

You could wire them together for a load of 2 ohm or .5 ohm. Look for a 1/2 ohm stable amp or a 2 ohm stable mono or 2 channel bridgeable amp that outputs around 1000-1100RMS at that ohm load and you should be good to go.

If it were me, I would not be wiring up my new subs to a crappy, low power, offbrand amp(please don't tell me its a Pyramid).

I wouldn't risk the damage to my new speakers.

Thank you for responding with this, almost exactly what I was looking for. I'm going the 2 ohm mono amp route.

Just have a question, when looking at the specs of amps how exactly am I supposed to read them? For example:

    http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_19252_Alpine_MRP-M1000.aspx
Since I have two subs does that mean if I hook it up for 2 ohms that it's "RMS Power @ 2 ohms: 1000W x 2?" Therefore pushing out twice as much as I need (2000W RMS)? Or would it be still 1000W RMS for both combined?

 I'm taking the subs out first thing tomorrow, haha. I'll make sure to tell you what brand my amp is though :p

Disregard the first question in my last post. I feel kind of foolish for not figuring out it was the amount of channels.

But I have a friend who is willing to sell me an Alpine MRP-M650 (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500MRPM650/Alpine-MRP-M650.html?tp=115&tab=features_and_specs) for $90. Would this be a proper match for my two 10" L5 Kickers? Or should I be looking more towards the Alpine MRP-M1000? Mind you I want my system to bump, but not have to be worried about blowing my subs.
