I am fairly new at the amplified sub scene so i was hoping a few of you could help me figure out what would be my best choice. Right now i have an Alpine CDM-9801 hu, kinda low end, but it works. I have a couple sets of Polk Audio speakers installed in the doors and mids. I need a little bass to help things out. I pick up a Dual 10" SBP10 sub powered by a Dual 300w 2 channel (bridged) amp. This too is very low end but it was cheap, so i snagged it. It has a bandpass style box which i have read is for maximum boom. I listen to rock not rap so i thought about building my own sealed enclosure for the Dual woofer to make the bass a little tighter. Somewhere i read where 1 to 1.25 cubic feet of volume is need for a sealed box enclosure. Is this all dependent on the speaker too? This is going into a 96 Bronco, full size. What would be a good woofer choice, running about 200 to 300w, to go into a homemade sealed box for $100 or less? and how much box volume is needed with it? Thanks, Jerry.
So have you listened to the bandpass? With 10's you can go even smaller with the box size, ive seen them play in .75 sealed boxes really well. As for what woofer, well look at Alpine type E or S, kicker CVR, JL W1, polk audio, phoenix gold, infinity, etc etc.
No, i haven't listened to it yet. But i wanted to build a sealed box, swap the woofer and compare the sound from one box to another anyway. I should someday just buy a better speaker for it. Not really sure whats going to happen yet, my ideas seem to change almost daily.
I would hook it up for now and then get back to us with what you want from the bass stage of your system.I ran bandpass boxes for years and was very happy doing it.Now I just like ported, but you won't know until you hook it up.Making a box and swapping out the sub could be a saturday project. You might like it in the box it's in.Why spend the time and money if you don't have to.
Well I'm running A .75 sealed box in my Expedition. The sub is an Orion HCCA 10 inch sub at 4 ohms. I have it connected to an Alpine pdx-5 amplifier. For my old ears it plenty loud and clean. You may want to try listening to one. As for building the box it was less then a $100. What ever you decide good luck!
Doesn't sound too bad but i think it sounds just a little muffled. It's hard to say because it's the first sub i have ever had. Not much to compare it to. I don't mind trying stuff like that. I got plenty of time on my hands. Besides, i am interested to hear the difference in a bandpass vs a sealed box using the same driver.
Sorry,I misunderstood you.I thought that you wanted to change the box before you even hooked it up.It says .75 cuft for a sealed box.I had a hard time finding it also.
