Recently purchased a Car Stereo and trying to install for myself. This is my first time and im really confused. I have a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix. Right now i have a wire harness in the back of my after market deck and im wondering if i should cut my factor harness off and connect these wires 1 by 1. What should i do?
I think you need an install kit for your car. That will allow you to plug into the factory harness and wire up your stereo.
NO NO NO, DO NOT cut off your factory harness. There is no excuse for completely screwing up your car. Your car uses a data system, there is no ignition wire behind your radio. The wire adapter you need is the GMOS-01 or the GMOS-04 if you have OnStar or a factory amp. http://www.amazon.com/Axxess-GMOS-01-Onstar-Harness-Adapter/dp/B000K52DVY Do it right and you won't have a problem later.
Another thing to check is to see if your car has a stock amp. Some Pontiacs have Monsoon systems that have small external amps. If you plan on wiring up just the HU, you may need a converter like http://www.crutchfield.com/p_127SOEM4/PAC-SOEM-4.html?tp=5684 otherwise you may do some damage and will sound like crap. I dont have a Pontiac, but I have a Hyundai Santa Fe with a Monsoon system. My factory amp is under the passenger seat. Doing a lil research on google about Monsoon, I read that Monsoon is Dephi's brand and that various automakers have used them on certain models. Pontiac and Volkswagen are two others beside Hyundai that I know of. If you are unsure of whether you have a powered setup, enter your car info in crutchfield's data base and they will tell you if you need that converter.
The GMOS-04 ( also listed in my response) is the correct interface for a vehicle equipped with a premium sound system. The link you have is a PAC LOC.
