Hello All, Im Mitch, I am new to this forum, and a amateur at car audio (not a complete retard, im an electrician so series/parallel, wiring isnt an issue)

I wanted to get some input and thoughts on what you would do in my 2005 Ram 1500 5.7l hemi.

Here are the parameters for pricing and what I want to accomplish.

    $1000 budget

I am looking for a "quality sound" system that doesn't have to be competition worthy. As far as bass, I want a "tight" sound, If that makes sense, not huge on deep bass, but "tight hits". I am not worried about who hears it outside the vehicle just me and the passenger.

Here is a mock up list of what I picked out fairly quickly online just for reference.

    Head Unit Kenwood EXCELON KDC-X794

Front Speakers Alpine 6.5" Component SPS-600C

    Rear Speakers Alpine 5.25" Coaxial

    Sub Alpine Type-R SWR-1042D (1 sub a 12"-12"-12" Sealed)

    Amp Kenwood KAC-9105D 500W RMS x 1 Car Amplifier

I priced this around and got down to $600 on ebay, so i have room to change up on this. Please feel free to tell me what brand, type, etc you would tweak and why. Please throw the why in there so i can get educated.

Thanks for any help in advanced!

Where do you plan on mounting amps and mounting a sub enclosure, you dont have much space?

subenclosure will fit behind the middle of the seat as a square box, and behind the passenger/driver seat with a slight angle (if someone highly recommends going with two subs) amp will also behind the seats.

Welcome. Man after my own heart...Dodge!

If you want "quality sound" I might make a few changes. To stay in budget I might go for a high end set of front speakers, as for the rear speakers, either use them or dont but I wouldnt invest anything into that location right now, just keep em stock. I also would maybe think about going with a multichannel amp with integrated x-over. You will want some real power going to the highs, not head unit power....over-rated! Sub bass is also critical. would stick with a simple sealed enclosure. Again high quality speakers and lots of high quality power...thats the key to a musical system...(along with other things like speaker placement, x-over points, dampening, etc )

As for brands...Like I always say, let YOUR ear decide, not what the salesman or buddy tells you sounds the best...

in a truck that small it would be a waste to add a rear speaker. a nice 2 way or even a good coaxial in the doors will work.

your truck has 6x9's in the doors right? you can go with 6x9's or an adaptor and do 6'' comps. your choice.

im sure a wedge shaped sealed box will work and fit better too. it doesnt have to be huge either. that way an amp can fit on either side of it. not sure where the box will sound better tho. either behind you or behind the passenger seat. then the amp can mount on the opposite side of it.

i too would look into a multi ch amp. i think a good 4ch should fit the bill if you dont power the rears.
