I've done it, i've built my dream system, with months of planing and forthought, i picked every component to the exact match for what i wanted. whitch was power...and SQ, and more power! and i got it and THAN SOME! i can take this system all the way out, with 0! distortion! i didn't think i'd hit the sweet spot with out a 3 way system in the front, but i did it equipment i'm rocking Alpine PDX 4.150 Alpine PDX 1.1000 Polk SR 124 DVC (wired to 2 ohms) infinity kappa perfect 6.1's JBL c608 GTI MKII Eclipse CD7200 MKII
Amazing, isn't it? I can crank my system all out and its perfectly clear. Every sound is right there in front of me, even the bass seems to be right in front of me. Someday I will have to buy a new car, my truck is getting old, and it will be hard to build another system that meets the standards that my truck has set for me. yeah, the only part i don't like is the infinity's tweeters, but i'm swapping them out for another set of GTI's, whitch will be able to tune even higher, and sound even clearer, the infinity's can't play certan music, due to the nature of the tweeters, being designed for a spacific frequency, they ignore so many others, and blend so many together that shoudln't sound as one, but with 80% of the music out there, they'll play decent enough to call pro, but not worth the 400 msrp or even the 200$ i payed :|
There is an advantage to building your own crossovers. My Polk DX3000 tweeters didnt perform the way I wanted them to. So I built my own crossovers. I made the slope steeper and lower to fix my problem. I also pointed the tweeters away from me. They point toward the rear view mirror. Which Infinity Tweeters are you using?
the infinity kappa perfect 6.1 set i'm puting the jbl's in the front with the stock cross overs for now, and eventualy i'm dropping a JBL ms-8 up under my back seat, and another amp that'll do front stage active, rear stage passive off a full range signal. tweeters will be ran off my Eclipse EA4000, 75x4 watts rms, 160x2 bridged. i'll probobly run it bridged for the front tweeters, idk depends how they sound. but i dont even know if i'm going to do all that yet, i'm going back to school in the fall and running out of funds,got bills to pay
it's genraly the best place, depending on the tweeters, bright tweeters def belong up along the windsheild from what i understand, but there are guys out there that insister tweeters belong on kick pannels with the woofers on axis to provice a fuller sound..i find that hard to believe, larger car perhaps with plenty of room but not in a smaller car. anyways, i was playing with my new 7200 that i installed friday today on my way home from work, and i was able to tune the system to the point where i was satisfied but the amount of work to get them to sound right isn't right to me, it took some seriouse dabling to get them to sound right and it only worked in certain bands and songs, you really could only tune them for vocaly heavy music, anything to complex became a bit of a pain. and if you're putting a crummy signal from am MP3 cd, forget it, you're done. lol
Actually the tweeters should be close to the mid-drivers. This usually fixes most problems. Tweeters up hi and mid drivers down low causes different sounds to come from different locations. So instead of all the sound in front of you, sound appears to come from many different locations. the sound stage typically is all wrong. If the tweeter has to be seperated from the mid driver, (it works for me) use an odd order filter (crossover) on the tweeter and an even order filter on the mid driver. This puts the tweeter out of Phase and makes it less directional. Then point it away from you. In my truck for example the tweeters are mounted on the door and pointed toward the rear veiw mirror. It works! So yes, I point them at the windshield.
my deck has time alignment, that helps with that problem. i havn't tuned it yet, but i havn't really found that problem my self, i can hear the center stage being off, if i get my lean on, i'm in the stage center though but once i set my time alignment properly, i won't need to get my lean on
