Little background.. Currently have a 400.4 Z-Edition amp and a Kicker 12" CVR in a 2000 Ford Ranger. I went to the stereo shop today and they reccomended the following after I told them what I wanted:

    Alpine MRP-M500 ($149)
    Alpine SPS-600C ($89)
    Alpine SPS-600 ($79)

The plan is to push the speakers with the 400.4 and the sub with that M500.

My plan in the future is to get 2 10's because although I love my 12, if I put in some Slipknot, Mudvayne, or Disturbed, the sub can't keep up. That amp should have no problems pushing 2 Type R's pretty clean, right?

Anyhow, what do youguys think of that setup? And if you don't think highly of it, what would you suggest in the $350ish range?

kicker isn't responsive enough for that kind of music. kicker is about KICK. as lame as that sounds, I perosnaly like MTX, pioneer, rockford, kenwood. drop any of those in and I'm sure you won't feel you need a 2nd 12".

good speakers though. alpine is ace, i also like infinity.

    1 Kicker 12CVR - It's in a sealed box, powered by a Z-Edition 400.4 amp.

sealed box is best acoustics for rock and metal, at least most bands. and alpine anything is pro, just don't put junk in and you'll be fine, never take the low road, it nevers pays. i recently bought a 200$ for a sub\amp set that didn't even work out of the box, you get what you pay for in car audio. as over priced as the **** is.

The M500 is golden. It is underrated and gives nice clean power. What are you looking for out of your system and what kind of music do you listen to?

stay away from department stores, buy your own ****, its much chepaer. rca's are way cheaper online, as well as power lines and kits, you can get a kit for 3k watts with rca's for like 40$ as apposed to 40$ just for the power lines than the store will sell you the rca's separately. also their advice is horrible. unfortunately, everybody has different opinions, and blah attitudes twords most questions you ask. one basic rule - you get what you pay for, but don;'t go buying a 800$ amp. go mid range, mid range, don't need kicker or JBL, i personally like rockford.

thatll sound reallz nice. The alpine equipment is nice too. i got the last years speakers from JBL (GTO607C) and i love em. they get nice and loud. The amp they are settin you up with is really nice and thats a killer price on it. later on if you want some subs that'll keep up with rock look into these

i disagree. the kappa line from infinity really sucks imo. they blow even at rms (usually the tweeter first). i have had two friends that went kappas in their inside speakers and needless to say, they have got rid of them because they blew. i would suggest polk audio db series component set. they take a good beating, get loud, and sound good while doing it.

REALLY? i thought they were very good speakers :\ i thought kappa was their high end model. are you sure they had kappa and not Reference series?

I have heard db's and momo's and I like those too! Never heard infinity's cause I hear they have really bright highs so I don't recommend them.

I listen to hip hop, rap, and metal. But recently more metal than anything, and with this current sub (Kicker 12 CVR) that I have, it's not hitting great for metal. I'm gonna live with it for now, hoping my new amp will make a difference with it. But what do youguys think would provide a happy medium for hip hop/rap and metal music?

Going for the amp and some components for now though, that alone will be better than the terrible door speakers I have now.

Anyhow, what do youguys think of Alpine SPR-17S components instead of those other ones? I want a crossover for sure. Eventually I plan to get the Alpine SPR-17C door speakers too.
