well got a almost new kicker l5 in a big box, not for sure how many cubes but it takes up the whole exteded cab part of my ranger, and a ma audio 1000 watt competition series amp that run 500 rms at 4ohms. i gave a kid 200 bucks for em and he threw in a small box too. think i got a good deal? its a silver kicker not one of the black ones. all i know is its loud!!! any one know the recomended size of box for this sub?
o heres a pic. idk if you cann see it good enuff though but its almost the whole back end of my ranger. the sub is 4ohms am i correct? i have a mono 1000watt ma amp if i got another kicker i could wire it down to 2 ohms right? if i did the the amp is rated for 1000 rms at 2ohms. do you think that would power 2 kicker l5s?
i dont know if your sub is 4 ohms or not. get a digital multi meter and find out. also,yes 1000 watts will power up two of those well.

i have seen plenty of MA's at comps. it will power your your sub/s well. im not 100% sure on the 1000 watts after impedance rise and all, but 800 should be doable. thats a ballpark figure mind you. my amp is wired @ .7 ohms and with impedance rise from the box im seeing a 2 ohm load and getting 530 watts out of my sub amp. not too bad considering its rated to put out 450 @ 2 ohms.
ok now another question. i would like to stay with a sealed box. this one i have now sounds good but its really a little bigger than i would like. any idea on how big a box i should get? ive got a really small one but i dont wanna put it in a little box with no airspace
i used to have an L5 10 in a .88 sealed box and it was loud with only 280 watts from my power acoustic amp. a 980LT. i had to wire it to an 8ohm mono load. what size sub is yours a 10 or 12?
if its a 10 then 2cubes for 2 will work if its a 12 then 4 cubes total will work. ive heard that going a lil bit bigger will help with the deep bass output, but power handling will suffer a bit. so if its 2 10's then a 3CUFT box should be just right. sealed
With a DMM you turn it to mesure volts in ac (usually marked VAC, mine has VAC 200 or 600 and the 200 is what is use) and connect the positive to the positive speaker terminal on the amp and the negative to the negative speaker terminal. Multiply the number you get by 10 and thats your voltage, this is what elemental designs shows on thir youtube vid when setting gains. Also its best to use a constant test tone to set the gains and check voltage, I used a 50Hz tone.
to get an accurate number you need the clamp meter and the DMM. set the dmm to read batt voltage and clamp one of your subs speaker wires. then you do the math and presto. i just cant remember what math to do. one way tells you impedance the other is rms wattage. so mine is 530 rms at i think i did a 50HZ tone. so its slightly less at 30HZ like 150 watts and maybe higher at i higher tone. i wanna say i did it with music too, that might have been how i got my wattage rating. playing lil jon push that. thats at 42HZ. its been a few months since i did that.
lol that sounds like a pain in the ass lol. i aint to worried about it. you think two powerbass extreme 12''s on the same amp would be louder?
its actually very fast and easy. it takes nothing to clamp the wire and just as fast and easy to stick the probes in the power and ground wires. then you play your music or tones. it took like 2 minutes per test. the hard part is the math if you dont have a calculator.
pedro, in order to get more power out of your amp then it is rated for you have to drop the ohms is that right?
yes as long as the amp is rated to handle said load. my amp is rated like this.. 250 @4Ω, 450 @2Ω, and 600@ 1Ω. so my subs are wired to 1 Ω.
