Well ive decided i need to upgrade my mids and highs before i upgrade to another system. I was thinking about doing mb quart. Heres a link. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_13942_MB+Quart+PVI+216.html or these http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_13946_MB+Quart+RSI+216.html I was thinking of doing one component set for each door. Does anybody have any pics of their components in their rangers? Mine is a 2000.
MB Quart isn't as good as they used to be... I've heard having 2 sets of components in the car without going active could cause some cancellation in the sound, at least that was what i was told... I'm waiting for my upgrade now, i upgraded to focal K2P's!!! If you want some killer midbass i've heard that the RE XXX components sound really good!
What do you mean by going active? Im not dead set on any brand so if yall have better brands, post them up.
going active is what a lot of people do when they want it really loud and clear and even more so in SQ applications. In an active set up, you have a midbass, mid and a tweet in each door. They are not run through passive crossovers but connected directly to the amp/s and tuned from there. Here's a link on those RE XXX6.5'. Heard they have some nasty midbass... http://www.woofersetc.com/p4928/XXX...uot;-2-Way-2-Ohm-XXX-Series-Component-Set.htm they are 2ohm and are 150 watts RMS/side.
O ok. I understand now. Im new to highs and mids and stuff. Ive never done any in my truck. The REs look sweet. Im gona power them with a crossfire 404 4 channel amp. What about phoenix gold components?
you mean the PG RSD's? They are great starter comps but for somebody that is looking for an upgrade I wouldn't suggest them. If you're like me, everytime you upgrade you want something A LOT better. the crappy thing is if you want something a lot better you will have to shell out $$$. I would rather invest in some really sweet used components then buy just "ok" new components. That's what i decided to do with the Focal K2P's. I would have never been able to afford them new but i found 2 sets really cheap... IMO you want to upgrade so you won't have to worry about getting anything else for a long period of time.
Yea i no all about upgradin. LOL I want something loud and clear. Im willing to fiberglass my door panels for extra speakers. Im really thinking about the REs. They look good and ive heard good things about them.
here's something on the more cheaper side. But i know for sure that the JBL's also have really killer midbass. they are power hungry though. What does your amp do if you bridge it? http://www.woofersetc.com/p7893/C608GTI--JBL-65"-600-Watt-Component-System.htm
Indeed they are very sexy speakers... I was looking for a used set but i couldn't come up with anything. lol Those RE's will get plenty loud and you can still install them in the stock location if you wanted to. You could still go with two pairs if you really wanted to. I know people that are doing that here but they only run them at the same time for outside listening and then when they are inside the car they turn them off (for staging purposes)
i'm sure those JBL's would be good with 200 watts going to them. What amp were you planning to get? I saw a NINe.2x for sale used but in like new condition for $100.. you may be interested... I was thinking of getting it but I don't know what i'd use it for. lol
Idk yet. Im getting a DC 2000d amp for my subs but idk if DC as a/b amps. If they do, im gona look into those. I think im hooked on the REs. So what do i need for each door?
All i know is that the RE's are rated at 2ohms. so you're gona need an amp that's good for at least 150watts @ 2ohms per channel
My amp does 100x4 at 4ohms. I may end up getting the nine.2 so i can have all ED amps and not worry about getting a 2000d.
that's an idea... you may be able to find a nine.2 used for cheap. check out the elemental designs forum... I did find that nine.2x but at 2ohms it puts out 300 watts.
you should be okay with one set if you go with the RE's. Should be more than enough to keep up with your subs. now, if you plan on going in the 150+ db range then i would suggest going active. Then you'll be really loud and clear. but you'll need at least 2 amps for that. one 4 channel for mids and midbass then another amp for the tweets.
Ok, well i doubt i will be able to do 150s with the setup im going to do. Im gona do 2 dc lvl 12s in a 4.1 cubic ft box tuned to 33Hz. Its hard to explain how im gona do it, but i think it should look good when i get done. With 2 12s, one RE xxx component should be enough on a nine.2.
Thanks alot Cccullen. I was going to do a big system and go for the 155 db range, but when i get my pell grant for school back, im gona use that money to get me some 35x12.50 Nitto Mud grapplers with 20x9 Pro Comp 6001 rims for my ranger and just get a nice simple, but loud and good looking system.
