Iv been thinking about some ideas for a new system in my car, currently a 1991 chevy lumina, i dont want to get into a set price range, brand names or that yet. Some ideas so far are pretty basic, 2 tweeters up front, maybe small mid range drivers in the doors? 2-4 6x9's in the back, and for subs i was thinking of 3 subs 2 12's and 1 15. make my own box with 3 holes and have the 15 in the center. (dunno if youv seen the trunk on a 91 lumina but its HUGE lol) thinkin of a 4-5 channel amp to run them all and throw in a crossover. any ideas?
welcome to the forum. its not a good idea to use diff sized subs in the same enclosure or in diff one in the same system, you'll get diff performance from them. since they will have diff specs they can cancel each other out. "different response slopes...different group delays. Different woofers lead to sloppy bass because each as its own response and delay." quote from aznboi
And u dont use 6x9 when u have subs. U dont want your sound and your bass to be coming from the back, cause it will cancel eachother. It will only sound worse. Use that money and buy a good system for the front door, and a good amp.
thanks for the help, i had heard before that different sized subs sounded different i just thought it would be cool. but as far as subs go 2 12s are better than 2 15s right? only 15 i ever heard hit the low bass but that was about it.
i think you mean using the 6x9s without sealing them off....right? if the sub stage shares the same air space with the 6x9's then yes they (6x9's) can distort from the air pressure from the subs. so if you still want to toss 4 6x9's in the rear deck just seal them off from the subs. had a bud use some shoe boxes and peal and seal. worked well.
i got rid of 2 of em. have the other 2 under the front seats, but they are gonna come out hopefully monday when i get some door speakers, probly pioneer g-series 6.5"
well on to the new system, front stage- deck- Pyle PLCD66MU 320watt, Pyramid 3.25" tweeters on the dash, and pioneer g-series 6.5's in the front doors. Power acoustik 6.5" midrange drivers in the rear doors and the rear stage - 2 SPL SP3 series 12" subs 2600watt, 1000rms. any ideas on an amp for the subs? or any other input or opinions on anything else?
for inexpensive amps look into power acoustik or crunch. they make good inexpensive 1,2 and 4CH amps.
