I got into car audio in '93 after I got my DL and soon after came my first car. Started off with a Pioneer amp and 2 10" Pyle subs that I bought from a friend. A year or so later is when I bought a Kicker 12'' Solo-Baric with an Alpine V-12 amp, talk about a KICK AZZ sub!!!! I had many systems after that, but decided to get out of the car audio scene in '99 or so to do some Home Audio stuff. Now I'm back trying to find some old school gear to setup in my home. Let me tell ya, my wife is excited about my new hobby again!!

I got into car audio at about '92 or '93. I started with some cerwin vega subs and my first amp was a piece of crap MGT amp then I upgraded with a RF punch 150 and punch 75. it knocked pretty good at the time..

What kind of old school gear are you looking for? no interest to put in your car?

i got in this hobby in 87 when i started high school and got my first car.

my first decent system had a coustic 120 amp 60x2 powering 2 mtx blue thunder 12's and a coustic cassette deck powering some cheap pyramid door speakers. then all that was stolen except for the subs, and i started over with a new vehicle. an 87 gmc standard cab pickup.

i can list what i had in that ,but it would make for a LONG read, lol.
the subs stayed the same throughout the 16 years i owned it.

I saw my first real car audio system when I worked for Firestone, that was back in 84. I didn't build my first system until 87 0r 88 (I think). My first Head unit was a Pioneer KEH 7676TR. It was an AM/FM Cassette. I had two Pioneer Amps, I think they were GM A200.

    Now thats old

I didn't start working in car audio until 97. And I will be this industry in 09. But it will always be a hobby of mine, I start teaching High School Math this year.

    I'm lookin for...

Kicker SS & ZR series amps.
Kicker 25th anniversary amps & subs. MUST BE IN "LIKE NEW CONDITIONS"

I just bought a ZR 360 amp on ebay from a guy who bought it brand new in '97 but never used it. The amp sat in his basement for 12 years, it was packed in the original box with the birth sheet.

I have no desire to put a system in my Jeep or wifes car. I donated too much audio gear to people who thought they needed it more then I did. My car was broke into 5 different times over a six year period, dont need that Bulls**t again.

I got my first job in the business in 1990 at Sound Advice. Still in it Today . First system was in 1988 two soundstream amps seems like maybe they were d100s or d 200s can not remember that was long ago and a Couple of G&S redline 12 inch subs . Clarion 6by9s off of a kenwood i think the model was a 67r but i could be wrong there. it was a pullout cd that had this huge tuner box and brain. I miss the olds days.

I got into the car stereo scene back in '03 after my econ. teacher made us do a report on small business. I ended up interviewing a local shop owner (and ex mayor) and then started hanging out around the shop and helping out with little things here and there then eventually moved into working full time for them before i moved to another city, but i still love the scene.

    Around '89-'90.

First car was a 1973 VW Beetle - awesome car to get loud in, with that spartan interior and ridiculously thick curved roof sheet metal...

I started doing installs on the side not too long after that, but college and career sent me on a different path... I didn't get involved with the industry until around 2000, and that was an engineering / product design role... then around 2003 I became involved managing a local car audio shop that's grown quite large, although that's certainly more due to the young owner's family's millions than it is natural growth... So, I'm no longer involved, other than ramping up some side work again so far this summer.

Much more fun as a hobby.

I've got an Eonon 7 inch 2-din DVD system in my car, I'm very satisfied with it! The screen is displayed fine, though not expensive. You can see one of my pic, I also listed out in one of my tread.

Yeah, that seems a little random and totally not in keeping with the thread.
You could split the post out of this thread...

I started going to a car audio place in about 82 before I had my license..The guy running the place was in an old hot dog stand. The whole front of the place was covered (people used to pull up and the waitresses came on roller skates)..he did some installs out there and eventually built a small garage in the rear...Eventually it was all torn down and he built a new building with a complete shop in the rear, the original building was little more than a trailer...

anyway...used to go in there and pick his brain and just look at all the gear...Bout 83 I bought my first car...'69 VW bug. No heat...rust colored primer....I bought a used head unit from a buddy (craig, I believe) and the slide for ffw and rev on the cassette was broken so it had a sheet metal screw in place...I had a little 5 band EQ with an analog power meter on it and I ran that back to the back...In the rear I built a shelf out of pressed board and screwed 4 dowel rods in it for legs to make the board even with the top of the rear seat...I had to "kraco" plate speakers in there....I used to rock down the highway like that...both bass freq on the EQ railed out....still no bass..

I heard my first subwoofer system at this guys old shop and was hooked for sub bass, but no money....

In 92 I finally had a sunbird that I put two 12" kicker comps in a box with an amp running them. JBL 6x9 in rear deck running off an amp and new 3.5" in the dash running off a tiny amp...that was my first multi-amp system...I had those kikcer subs in three vehicles....When I got away from car audio for a while, I built a box and they are my HT sub now...Still sound awesome...
