I'm still getting a slight alternator whine in my system and it's really ****ing me off now.

I redid the mess behind the stereo by separating the power, grounds and speaker wires and adding wire loom to them. After i turned on the car it was gone, i thought i solved the problem. ON Sunday morning i went out and the noise was there again. I spent a good 2 hours cleaning up the hack job near the stereo and the whine is still there!

Now, everything is connected properly, the grounds are all okay. I've been having this problem for a long time now. I'm thinking that one of my DLS crossovers is the problem because it's in the kick panel right beside the power line. Could that be it?

I was also reading in ICIX about doing a dedicated HU ground. What would that be? is this something i should also do?

Once I do the builds again, i'm going to move the crossovers for my DLS to the rear where the box will be. So i am planning to change that. Could that be my problem?

dedicated HU ground is a must especially if you're experiencing noise issues.

find the black wire coming out of your HU harness or whichever is your ground and find a near by spot of bare metal. connect the two! Use your best judgment when choosing one because some can be deceiving. you may want to actually test the connection first to before you get carried away.

do you have any amps? i take it you remembered to run the rca's and power on opposite sides of the vehicle from eachother right (if you do have amps)?

if that ground doesn't work it might be your HU. I just had that exact same problem with my stereo when i put in my amps and it turned out being the rca outs inside the HU were fukd up, swapped cd players and the sound was gone.....

its install dependent whether having signal and power cables on the same side induces noise into the system.

Get some 18 gauge wire and ground the HU chassis to the amp chassis or ground. Ranger told me this trick quite some time ago.

my power and remote are on one side and my RCA's and speaker wire are on the other side of the car.

I have to try the ground to the HU chassis to the amp chassis. I was also thinking it may be because my crossover is right near the power line coming from the battery. Could that be it? I also read somewhere, i think it was on ICIX that this could also happen if the power is near relays for the car. Mine just happens to be right next to a whole bunch of them.:(

well if you have a signal wire crossing over a power wire cross them perpendicular to each other..i.e. 90 degrees. It should take that out of the equation.

move them out of the way and see what happens. also i know for a fact that in the 4wd model of your truck there is a large bundle of wires on the passenger side sill plate that goes to the ecu. it controls the overhead display and the module that disconnects the front wheels while turning. and something else i dont remember.

maybe running down the middle of the truck will help.

As much as I don't want to have to do it but i think your right. There are a bunch of wires on the passenger side of the car, a lot of relays on the driver side and passenger side kick panels too.

It's not going to be fun doing this because the seats will have to come out.
