Hey people. I'm new in car audio system. I'm 18 this year and just bought my own car. I mostly listen to Rap / R&B music. I'm now planning for a low budget car audio system. Basically, I don't even know what i really need for my car. I heard from one of my friends that if i want to save cost, I'll just put in some high-end 4 way speakers, 2 tweeters and also a amplifier for optimum sound. I'm really not quite sure if this is real and that's why i came here to ask. I would like to have a woofer or a sub-woofer but is it good to place them under the front seats because the place in my trunk is really really limited. Please give me advice as I'm getting my car next week. I don't have an exact budget but I will consider all advices to have the best car audio quality.
The car is called Naza Suria in my country but I'm not sure the name for it over there. http://www.naza-kiamotor.com/naza_suria.htm My budget is around below RM1000 which is roughly 300USD. I seriously don't know what to get for my car. Really depress and upset with it

cute little car. what country are you in? i was telling a freind of mine just yesterday. if you dont have a lot for a stereo now the first thing i would do is upgrade the front speakers. a decent woofer, tweeter combo can make a big difference even with a stock radio. since i dont know where your located im not sure of brands of equipment available to you locally. that way you can go out and take a listen to some. i've had good luck with polk audio and infinity. those are my favorite brands in my price range. (99~150). also ive read good reviews on the RS model of phoenix gold. there are better speakers out there but your on a budget so i'll stick to low price good quality speakers that i know of. any idea of what size speaker fits in your doors?
ITs the Kia Morning/Kia Picanto And iz a Korean Car, Kia... (Hyundai off branch) But if its the N/S its produced in Malaysia. I did an install in Aus on a surfing buddy of mine, Its tight enough that for a SUPPER small budget you can pack 6x9's and get a good bump to it. but if your hell bent on amp and sub... i know i know Wally world sells two brands that i will for off brands personally preach about, the V3 300w Amp i got for 75 bucks and i got a TIS (Twenty inch strong) 10 inch enclosed sub and amd combo, now the amp poped a relay in a matter of two hits, but the sub itself pushed with the V3 you can make that little cheap 10 sound like a 12 Links to follow
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9833_TIS+Audio+T510PK.html Thats the sub/amp combo, The speaker is a 350RMS SVC, ive personally put 600 RMS through it and it didnt fail. but i wouldnt suggest it, though its a hard knocker considering. just save the amp as backup i guess.... i didnt like it and it was unreliable, broke again within the first use, on the up wide it does come with all the required wiring gear. The amp was something like 75 bones or so. you can find something equivilent. but ubless youre going to buy a new head, you will probably need some type of High to low input converter.
yup, it the kia picanto here in the Philippines. cute little car. They do have room in the trunk. i'm sure you could put 1 10' in there in a sealed enclosure. What brands do they offer where you are from? where do you plan to buy your gear?
Well, I'm from Malaysia. There's a wide variety of brands here to choose from. Just that i don't really know where to start from. Actually i don't really want to waste the space behind my trunk because I need them for my stuffs sometime. Was wondering if placing them under the front seats is a great idea. lol~ My friend was suggesting 4 speakers on all sides of the car doors and a pair of tweeters. He said this should be better off without a woofer. And is it compulsory for an amplifier if I add in a woofer? (just asking, i don't have any knowledge on sound system) I would most probably be looking for tweeters and speakers tomorrow if i have the time. Any suggestions on how to look for good tweeters and speakers like the material used, the cover or anything else?
cccullen, what does it mean by "a sealed enclosure"? sorry, i'm new in sound system but i'd really like to learn =). i'll buy the gears from an audio shop but i want to have some knowledge before stepping into it. i don't want to get over-priced parts.
a sealed enclosure is a box that goes around the speaker, that is fully enclosed, as apposed to a box with a hole in it (ported). i dont know if you can find a box/woofer with the kind of profiling you need to get under that front seat. if space is a real issue you can opt for a pair of 6x9's and 5x8s with multi ranges, that way you can keep your highs and mids and get a little bit of low. ive seen a couple pair of 6x9's that would get down to 58hz. also what about a little 8 inch bazooka tube? do you have room for something like this in the trunk? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9020_RCA+RC8PT.html
i agree on the bazooka tube. i had a 6 inch tube for a little while when i thought i needed all of my hatch space. lol. they are small and dont need a ton of power at all to make bass. just dont get the rca brand in the link above. ive heard one and it was awful.
LOL ya i should have said that was just for show, i wouldnt get it either.... sorry!! ill be more carefull nextime
We aren't too far from eachother. I live in the philippines. It really depends on what you are shooting for. Now, if you want some bass, you won't be getting much from component speakers (component speakers are midbass and tweeters that are separate). If you want low end bass then you should look into getting a sub. Putting a sub under the seats is possible but I don't know how much space you have under the seats. What would your budget be for component speakers? are you looking for really clear sound? Try looking at component speaker brands like Focal, DLS, Polk. Listen to them and see what you like best.
you can still get good sound from a comp set. i would get that first then save up for a sub and amp in the future. maybe even upgrading the radio can help.
i went to one audio shop today near my office. i heard from my colleagues that the things there were quite ok. i went and have a look. all the brands mentioned seem to be from China or somewhere else cheaper. there was one i remember well, "BLUEPUNKT" instead of "BLAUPUNKT". i told the person there i wanted something moderate for a starter like me. he calculated a total of RM1,400 ( USD387 ) which includes 2 sets of speakers both of different brands, a set of tweeters, two amps, a woofer and the wires stuffs. he told me to go for two amps because the cost is much lower. he explained that a single amp with 5 channels is expensive. what do you think about the whole set? please give some opinions. i really do welcome them. and do we need to place the amps somewhere cooler with more airflow? i read somewhere in the forum saying amps should be placed in a well-conditioned place to avoid it from overheating.
if possible, please add me up in MSN hong.aaron@hotmail.com so i can chat and discuss with you about all this. i hope to get all this done before christmas. if possible, i'll shop all the items from ebay if the cost is around the same or a bit slightly more because of brand recognition. i'll comfirm the size of my speakers tomorrow. really appreciate the help here.
