I have a 2005 Nissan Altima and I have about $600 to spend on my first system. I've been doing some research and have a general idea of what I want but I'm looking for a person that knows a lot about card audio to guide me as to what I should be looking for. Optimistically, I would like a pretty nice HU, two components in my front and maybe to coaxials in the back. I was thinking of two decent 10 subs with the amps to power both the two 10 subs and the components in the front. Will this fit my budget? Any other suggestions? Should I go for a complete different setup? Any help would be awesome!!!

$600 for everything??? that may be a little hard for components speakers, coax, possibly 2 amps, 2 subs and wires, fuses etc.

Does your altima have the bose system in it?

ok, since you are on a buget i'm going to suggest you just work on getting component speakers first... Here are some really good component speakers that would fit your altima..

for your amps, i think it would be a better idea to get two amps... one for the speakers up front and one for the subs. Power acoustik makes some pretty good amps that are cheap so you may want to go with those.

    for the components and coax:

so u think i should keep my head unit? bc i have a stock HU. What would be the biggest difference between keeping my head unit and say buying like a pioneer premier one

change the head unit if you can afford to do it. what head unit did you have in mind? you can't go wrong with a pioneer.

I was thinking anything in the Pioneer Premier line that ran me less than $200. Could someone describe in simple words what ohms are? and how they affect what amp I should buy?

any pioneer you will buy should be fine...

with ohms, there are only certain ways a speaker can be wired to obtain a certain ohm load and some amps are only stable 4 or 2 ohms, so you have to make sure that for instance that you subs will fit your amp. For me to understand it before, i just played with this, I hope this will help..

ohms are the measure of electrical resistance. in the case of a voice coil its DC resistance. The lower the resistance the more power an amp is able to produce. This also means that the amp will run harder and less efficient. Class A/B amps are usually only stable down to 4 ohms bridged and 2 ohms per channel. Class D amps are usually single channel for sub duties and can be wired down to 1 ohm or sometimes even .5 or .25 ohm for competition purposes.

you could also just get a 4ch amp and keep the rear speakers stock and run the amp as a 3 ch.

What's the difference between SQ and SPL?

SQ (sound quality) SPL (sound pressure level)..

SPL is for people that want crazy chest pounding bass while SQ is for a more crisp and clean sound with the bass blending with the vocals. SQ is not bass heavy. I heard the winning SQ car at a competition and I couldn't even hear the sub.

SPL mostly use ported/vented enclosures while SQ usually uses sealed enclosures.

so it really has nothing with the system itself just the enclosure of the sub?

SQ is the vocals. SPL is the bass. SQL is both.

pure spl is for comps only. they have no mids and highs. pure SQ have minimal speakers. just enough to get the job done and sound very accurate.

SQL......... well you get the point.:)

then you have the "loud as balls" class. no rhyme or reason for speaker placement. if it fits they toss them in.

    here i'll show you.
