pretty new... how new... could be that some stuff has been on there a while and just needs to be re-adjusted tightened etc.

What kind of octane fuel are you running? Sometimes simple changes like that can have a factor. Is your cooling fan working?

 

well as for the coil that is has only had a month or so of work and its an electronic ignition to eliminate the point on the distributor. im going to napa to buy all new vacuum plugs... I dont think there is shop here to tighten up the carb. but there is one like 10 miles from here. I will have to pay a visit there. im pretty convinced now that its the carb.

 

im using the cheap stuff because thats what I thought I was supposed to use... I can fill the next tank with the middle one to see if thats the problem.

 

oh civic if your still getting oil in the plug valley (holes) when you get aaround to cleaning out the oil .then you need to replace the plug grommets. those should not cost much and are 4 separate gaskets for the plugs.

ive done it before on a friends car and is very simple and straight forward.
just remove the valve cover(label the plug wires) and you will see them.

get that fixed and we can focous on the fuel rail leaking.

 

what engine is it exactly so i can find the right parts.

 

if u get new plugs make sure u get a gap gauge.

i was thinking of that also but if the coil was bad would the car even start?

 

well it turns on fine... so would it be wise to buy a high performance coil... because we just got a regular one but its got an electronic distributor set up... I was looking at an accel super stock coil... cause after a rev it up it seems to stay on better.

 

Whoa hold up lol, I just noticed engine oil in the picture of his spark plug hole, if oil is getting in there then it's either the piston rings are bad and oil is getting by or a cracked engine block. No?

 

if the plug valley has oil in it then a bad gasket. if the plug electrode has oil on it then rings.

 

maybe, maybe not, it depends on what makes it bad

 

Check the gasket again, that would be a lot better than a broken ring

 

just got back from the shop... and the guy said it could be like the carb needing some cleaning or other things but didnt want to tell me anything and wanted me to pay him 70 bucks an hour to diagnose it. so I just came back instead.

 

to me, i dirty carb would really affect the cars overall performance. I've had my share of cars with carbs and every time my carb was dirty the car would really bog down, power was terrible. did you already try priming the carb?

ummm I have a bottle of carb cleaner and im going to try ceaning it out a bit tomorrow... the performance is great though... and today it didnt really start doing what it usually does and I drove it for about an hour its probably something simple like that. but I need to get a job tranny only has 3 gears and wont go into overdrive 70 max on the highway sucks.

 

priming is just sticking your hand right over the mouth of the carb and let it bog down a bit while revving the engine, you'll get gas all over your hand but it will free up any gunk stuck in the carb.

or an easier way:

you could also spray some carburetor cleaner into the intake of the carburetor while the engine is running. This will clean the intakes and other parts of the carburetor without having to prime it. The flammable nature of carburetor cleaner will, in small amounts, substitute gas as the fuel for the engine.
