I can't tell a good amplifier from an expensive crappy one so I'd love some advice!

I'm going to replace the awful system that came with my new Civic. The Treble is shrill. Bass is well, - what bass?

I just bought a 6-speaker component set on eBay - Alpine SPX-13REF for about $170 less than Crutchfield's price. I can't install them myself so I haven't heard them yet.

I know I need an amplifier - the speakers are rated 8-60 watts RMS (180 watts peak power).

What do you guys recommend that has very low distortion is a great amp?

    Thanks guys!

what are the other 2 speakers you bought? your set is a 4 speaker system. 2 mids,2 tweets,. your radio should be able to power those fine.

    Budget for Amp

Thanks for the replies - the speaker set is 6 speakers - it has a pair of cross over speakers too. The factory stereo should power them, but I bet it won't sound good . . .

I don't know what a good amp should cost. I guess I'm looking in the $400-$450 range retail, with the idea of trying to source the amp on-line for about $300 or so.

    Thanks!
