I'm looking to upgrade the system in my 1949 ford pickup(Regular Cab) as i am completely redoing the entire interior and upholstery. Thinking of going with:
    2 Kicker 12" CVT(slim)
    Alpine MRP-M850
    Alpine MRP-F450
    Alpine Type R 6-1/2" Component 2 way
    Alpine Type R 5x7" Coaxial 2-way

Looking for suggestions on better equipment choices or anything to make better sound without going crazy on price

    Welcome to CAT!

Looks like we have an alpine fan here. lol... Alpine is a solid brand. I would suggest you look for another sub other than the kicker CVT's, i heard they aren't so great.

If you are after a superior system, consider Morel for the speakers. I would look at a one amp system in this case, the Eclipse XA5000 would be my choice. Lots of power and class D for overall efficiency. It is a perfect match of power on all 4 channels to the sub channel. Enough to get respectably loud without being overwhelming. Using a amp in this circumstance will limit the amount of real estate being used to mount the amp, eliminate wiring and in general it does a great job. The new Kenwood Excelon shallow mount sub has proven to be a nice subwoofer as well.

www.eclipse-web.com for the amp, it is a last years model now so it may not be listed.
    www.morelhifi.com for superior speakers.

What is the source going to be?

my guess would be that you may not need the rear speakers being a reg cab truck. i tried some in my old 87 reg cab and it thru my image to the rear. no matter how the gain was set.

are you doing kick panels or in the doors(assuming you can put them in the doors)

i was thinking of putting the 6-1/2s behind the seats cause they arnt smothered in my truck by seat as it is buckets, and then the tweaters a little above them, then the 5x7's in the kick pannels which is currently how i have it on my old system just no tweaters

Also for subs would you go 2 or 1 type thing, that has been my biggest dilemma, ive got 1 12"CVT already in there or should i switch to two of something or one of something else

since it's a pick up, i wouldn't bother with a rear sound stage. Personally, I would put some 6.5's up front and totally ditch the 5x7's. Go with some good 6.5 components.

I'd love to see some pics of your truck. It's gotta look sweet!!!

Was there originally speakers in the doors? If you use the doors they act like a box when mounted properly and give some extra bass.

dont put the speakers behind the seat. they wont sound good.

put them in the front. if you have front speakers now maybe you can add the tweets to them. give it a shot. you may like the results.

i have my 5x7s in the kick pannels, so you are saying have a set of 6-1/2s one in each kick panel and then a tweater and 2 subs?

2 tweaters* so then its just a set of speakers and subs

well if you have 5x7's in the kick panels (that's near the floor) why not put some 6.5's in the doors and tweets on the dash? that would give you a nice front stage.

ya ditch the rear stage a good 6.5 component set would be good in kicks. i took out my rear speakers. then i would go wit 2 10's in the back behind seets mounted as low in the box as possible (read it on another site). i have 1 12 in a prefab box in my truck and it sounds descent. it says to use 10's because 12's need more room between the seat and the sub to have the sound waves produce. i dont really know if this is true though...

i know what you are saying on the possible damage to the subs if there isnt enough space, but i gotta talk to my installer and see if i can squeeze some more airspace in the back there, but im not going with 10's i only listen to rap and some techno, so i like the deep base, not so much the crispness

I tend to shy away from 10's as well but pedro is using 1 10" kicker L5 and he gets great lows with his. he even broke 140db on the TL.

Also another quick question, i'm thinking of running 2 12" Alpine Type X's in a custom ported box in my Escape, but is 4 5x7's Type S (1 in each door) enough to keep up
