Ok, I found out what my DLS comps are. Not very impressive and I bought these when i didn't know much about car audio. Anyway, this is what i have up front. DLS BASIC B5a 5.25" COMPONENT SYSTEM Speaker type : 2-way system Woofer size : 13 cm (5,25") Power handling capacity : 50 W RMS / 80 W max Tweeter : 16 mm (0,6") tweeter Frequency range : 60 - 18.000 Hz Sensitivity : 91 dB (1W/1m) Magnet size : 80 mm (3,15") Outer diameter of woofer : 130 mm (5,12") Installation depth : 63 mm ( 2,48") Mounting hole : 117 mm (4,62") Crossover : Cable filter LP: 12 dB & HP: 12 dB slope and this is what i have in the rear: DLS CLASSIC 225 5.25" Coax Speaker Speaker type : 2-way coaxial Woofer size : 13 cm (5,25") Power handling capacity : 50 W RMS / 80 W max Tweeter : 16 mm (0,63") Frequency range : 60 - 20.000 Hz Sensitivity : 92 dB (1W/1m) Magnet size : 80 mm (3,15") Outer diameter of woofer : 130 mm (5,12") Installation depth : 54 mm ( 2,12") Mounting hole : 120 mm (4,72") Crossover : Cable filter LP: 6 dB & HP: 12 dB slope Now, should i change them to something better (just the front)? I hope the NINe.4 won't kill them. I did find out that i could put 6.5's with very little fabrication. Do you think i should upgrade to some 6.5's in front and put my 5.25 comp in the rear? I need some advice for this.
Elemental Designs NINe.4 Class AB 4 Channel 4 x 65 @ 4 Ohms 4 x 100 @ 2 Ohms 2 x 150 @ 4 Ohms bridged Fuse: 2 x 25A Looks like a good match to me, just don't try running them at 2 ohms lol, or you will kill them.
I was really considering changing the front comps. I does look like a good match but i'm going to have 2 13Ov.2's with the nine.1. do you think my 5.25's can do the job with the nine.4 or will i run into problems with have too much lows and not enough coming from the coax and seps?
50-60 watts rms per door should be perfect, try it first because you may not need to do anything. I've been running my highs off my pioneer deck for the longest time and at 1000 watts of bass it was still good. So the fronts are only getting about 18 watts rms each if they are lucky lol. Now that i have 2200 watts of bass, i need to amp the fronts, it's very noticeable that the front is lacking.
ok, i'll take your word for it. My dad is leaving again for the U.S. and i was thinking about buying something while he's there. I'll just hold off on it for a while and see how they work out. thanks electro.
I'm really considering changing my front stage. I looked at the CDT CL-S60A for $99 but then I was also looking at DLS MS6A. the DLS come in 4ohm and the MS6A's are 100watts rms. How would I go about wiring the components at a 2ohm load to the Nine.4? I've never tried doing this with component speakers.
should i do that though with component speakers? would it bring down the quality of sound produced? Reason why i'm considering changing out my basic DLS is cuz a friend of mine that has them put an amp to them and overpowered them just a little and they fried right away. I can get the MS6A's for roughly 160 shipped.
I'd just run them at 4 ohms each 65 watts rms each in stereo, it will be nice. Otherwise you have to wire them together mono and then put to one channel as 2 ohms and would only get 100 watts rms for the pair. Well, i was trying to work with what you had. Did you get the amp yet? It would be nice but you probably wouldn't notice a difference from your old ones. You want to run two sets right? one set in the front and one in the back. Your originals are 50 watts each so x 4, i would look for a 200 watt amp, 50 watts rms x 4 channels and use it on the speakers you have then see.
The nine.4 will probably work nice but i really don't know if it would fry your speakers, no idea lol. I guess that depends how loud you like to crank your system.
I want to get new DLS comps for my front stage. then my old 5.25 comps I'll put them in the rear doors. I can just tone the gain a bit for the 5.25's. I did buy the NINe.4 amp, It's on its way to California now, I may just go with the 6.5 DLS MS6A's. 100watts RMS and the NINe.4 may be ok, i'll be under powering the DLS a bit but I guess it will be ok.
Ok, I bought the DLS MS6A's... I'm thinking of just bridging my NINe.4 amp and just run the MS6A's off the amp. My DLS 5.25's comps (that are currently in my front now) I'll just put them in the rear doors and power them off the head unit. Do you think that will be better (feeding the MS6A's) 150watts compared to feeding them 65watts? the rms on them is 100watts.
Elemental Designs NINe.4 Class AB 4 Channel 4 x 65 @ 4 Ohms 4 x 100 @ 2 Ohms 2 x 150 @ 4 Ohms bridged Fuse: 2 x 25A hmm, my brain is clogging up lol. If you run at 2 ohms it will be mono and you will get 2 channels of 100 watts each channel. If you run at 4 ohms it will be in stereo which is a huge bonus especially for front stage and you will get 65 watts x 4 channels so actually you get more power and it's better and will run cooler. 260 watts total you would get at 4 ohms. That's quite a bit for front stage, i'm still powering mine off my deck and i have it nice now, i don't think i'll amp my front. Oh ya 150 watts each will fry those speakers, thats a bit too much, they are 100 watts rms each
You know what, I just run it in stereo then. Just feed them 65 watts a piece and see how they sound. That sounds like the safest way to go about it. I got the older model, the MS6, basically the same thing.
Sweden eh, lol nice!! I like the german home audio too it's pretty sweet, klipsch, volfenhagen lol something like that. Anything that sounds german is usually pretty sweet. It will be nice at 4 ohms, i think you will have 2 gains on that amp anyways so you will be able to control the gain for the fronts and then the gain for the rears. Also i think elemental designs rates at 12 volts so it's an underrated 65 watts each. Just take it easy on the rears, bring the gain down a bit.
I just made an offer to somebody and they accepted my offer. They are brand new but an older model. I paid about $150, which is very cheap.
