I think I'm set on these, as I like my music loud, but I like plenty of highs. I listen to EVERYTHING, including country and rap, but my main listening content has a lot of heavy metal (As I Lay Dying, All That Remains, Drowning Pool, Zao, Korn occasionally). I have a 97 Bonneville, and I want to take advantage of the stock component system locations. Only problem is they're 5.25" and 1", I need to get a converter for 6.5". I'm told one can be made easily. I know I'm not supposed to ask 'what sounds the best', but am I making the right decisions with the Kappas? Aren't there different models? I want to try to keep it under $150 for both front speakers (if found used on e-bay), or like $200 brand new. I was looking at the reference, but I heard they were a bit lower quality than the Kappas. My stock Infinitys in my old Grand Marquis blew me away, and the stock 10-speaker stock JBL system in my lincoln was the Loudest system I've ever heard. I am also running 2 - Kicker CVR12s in a vented box w/ a 1000 watt American Bass 1-ohm amp. I think the subs are four ohms, so they're not really pushing to their fullest, which is how I like it with rock music. I am driving the speakers with a Pioneer DEH-6900UB head unit, and keeping the rear 6x9 ac delco stockers for now until I can afford to change them. So, I am looking for opinions. Are Kappas good for me? Any hints when fabrication a 5.25" -> 6.5" adapter? Should I do any kind of sound proofing inside the door? Any good places to buy? Thanks guys...
Welcome!!! You have 1997 pontiac bonneville? From what I know the Bonneville can take 5.25 speakers in the front. Infinity has good highs, but don't expect really good mid-bass from any 5.25 speaker. If you are going to go with infinity then go with the Kappa's. As far as adapters go, they only have adapters from 6x9 to 6.5 or 5.25 not the other way around. I have the same problem in my ford. It will take a 5x7/6x8 but it won't take 6.5's unless you're going to fabricate something yourself so i'm just using DLS 5.25's.
Oh, DLS puts out real good clean highs. I know that from experience.. lol You can get some DLS for under $200. I have the 6x8 Infinity Kappa's in my Grand Marquis and the sound quality is pretty good. I also did CDT Audio 5.25" components in the front of my car and hated it... no midbass at all. Infinity Kappa 682.7cf 5"x7"/6"x8" 2-Way Car Audio Speakers
Thanks for the info guys, good stuff. As far as the 6.5" kappas, good mid-bass there? Am I going to have to build some kinda internal door enclosure? That sounds like a pain in the ass, and something that would have to be fiberglassed. But as I said, I like the music LOUD and CLEAR, and mid-bass will be needed for that. I was kind of hoping the available air space in the door would act as a box, but there's so much of it. What material would you guys recommend for making an adapter?
Elemental Designs as pedro said the easiest way is probably to just use mdf rings, make sure everything will fit though.
True, I was sooo disappointed with my mid bass before and made some adjustments to my amp and put some sound deadening in the door and i have to admit, i like my speakers now.
Azn is right. Mid Bass has alot to do with the installation. But if you can go from a 5.25 to a 6.5, I would definately go to the 6.5. Again it needs to be mounted solid.
Alright I think I have an exact idea of what I'm going to do. Would it be a good idea to stuff the area behind the speaker with some foam (something you might find on a bed)? I mean leave some airspace... but perhaps line an area with foam? I figured that could produce a cleaner sound. EDIT: I was told 2 ohms is something that my head unit would NOT like. I know it doesn't match specs, but I didn't know it would hurt it. I'm thinking more and more about amping these speakers, I just need to find a cheap, decent little amp worth my while.
I'm going to e-mail pioneer and ask how my head unit would like two 4 ohm speakers and two 2 ohm speakers.
I would just put an amp to the speakers, you would get way better sound that way and it would be a lot louder. What would be your budget for an amp? 2 channel? 4 channel?
Alright. Pioneer says it won't work, so I'm buying an amp with the speakers. I was looking at CDTs and was keen on them until I found that they don't handle volume too well. I'm looking at this amp: Cadence TXA-3004 Cadence 4 Channel High Power 600 Watt Amplifier What do you guys think? I have a Cadence 350w home subwoofer for my entertainment system, and it sounds damn good. It's been turned up, and doesn't get nearly as loud as most of my other home audio subs. I forgot I had a random 165 dollars sitting in an envelope left over from taxes lol. So that will be going towards this purchase. Will that Cadence be capable of running two 4 ohms and two 2 ohms until I get a set of decent 6x9s for the rear? Or should I run the rears off the head unit, and the fronts off of the amp? I think that would risk blowing the amp in the HU. I'll probably use the amp, given that that website warrants everything they sell for one year. Before I buy these Infinitys, does anyone have any input for a similar priced component system capable of producing similar SPL and clarity?

Well I tried... it's out of stock and is on order at the moment. Getting it for $129.99. The speakers, 134 shipped, but the company is being dumb and forgetting to give me an invoice for PayPal with the correct sales amount on it (I'm supposed to get some kind of discount for paying with PayPal). Cadence will be coming though... I have a 350w Cadence powered home audio sub in my computer room, and I've been extremely happy with it.
