Is my L5 ok for ported?

    ok, just doing a lot of reading and i found this on subwoofertools.com

    Will my woofer work in a ported enclosure?

    That's an easy question to answer. You need to know two Parameters of the woofer to determine "Efficiency Bandwidth Product" (EBP): Qes (electrical system Q) and Fs (driver's free-air resonant frequency)

    EBP = Fs/Qes

    A woofer with EBP less than 50 is better suited in a sealed enclosure, while a woofer with EBP of 50 and higher is generally good for a ported enclosure. Woofers whose EBP is between 45 and 55 work well in either.


    now, i ran the Fs/Qes for an L5 15" and it came out to only:
    23.4/.547 = 42.778

    So according to what this guy is saying, my sub would work better in a sealed box.

    Any comments?

    Those subs need a fair size ported, makes a huge difference from sealed.

    Well azn designed that 5 cu ft box for me. I was just wondering if there was any truth to what that guy is saying.

    my L5 10 is in a 2 cu ft ported box.

    my 12 inch L7 is in a 1.75 cu ft ported and it bangs like crazy, it was in a sealed Kicker box from the factory. Once I swapped it into the ported box it was night and day, way way louder and still goes deep.

    I don't think there is enough info there to make an accurate calculation like that. Maybe a rough guide but i can tell you if i ran it through bassbox, ported puts out way more.

    L7's spec toward sealed but they sound better ported

    I guess i'm doing too much reading. lol.. Just wanted to know. I don't want to go sealed.

    My guess is that electro is prolly around my age. Mid 30's.

    The best thing to do is not see her, you'll get over her faster that way.
