I got a 9885 a week ago and was installing today. It's going into a 86 Mercedes so I connected everything temporarily to make sure the wiring was correct. After setting it up and running it for about 10 minuets the rear heat sink was to hot to touch.
Normal? If not what might be causing this or do I need to return to BB?

do the speakers play ok or do they sound distorted?

i can see getting warm but,too hot.hmmm. maybe a bad unit?

i would go back to BB and find out.

Pedro -- Thanks. The speakers seemed to sound OK. I'm going to call Alpine in the morning as well. Not sure the BB people are well enough informed, if you know what I mean, to make a determination.

My pioneer is the same, the back heatsink will burn your fingertips off lol, i have it powering my front 6x9s. Was thinking to put a small fan on it but never got around to it. It has been that way since i got it new about 2 years ago, no problems so far. I am cranking the crap out of it too most of the time lol.

I'm going to return he unit. I f I turn the internal amp of it's nice and cool. Yesterday I literally burn my finger after only 10 minuets of use. If this HU was in the dash for long I'm afraid it'd melt something in there

keep a fire extiguisher near the HU...lol j/k i have seen some radios getting really hot to touch, perhaps you are pushing the internal amp too hard? if u can return it, do it if it keeps getting hot then you might be pushing the amp to hard making it get hot :D

so i'm at BB the other night to buy my fuse holder.the install guy in the car audio department asks "how can i help you?" so i said im looking for a battery terminal(mind you i'm standing in front of the amp kits)

he says.."um....for a car?" now i should have just slapped him and been on my way,but i was raised to be polite.

he IS one of their installers.i know where never to go for an install.

Returned it. Alpine said I had a bad ground so I redid it -- still hot. They then said I had a bad speaker connection so I redid them -- still hot. They then said turn off the internal amp -- way cool. They then said it was an internal amp short -- returned to BB. BB asked how I knew it was bad. Explained the whole thing and they said they had to test. After 2 minuets the GEEK Squad guy says it's not hot for him. I told him to wait 10 minuets then put his palm on the heat sink. A few minutes later I heard a yelp and got an instant refund^_^
