I cut all the MDF for my box... I still have to cut the 1.5"x3.5" bracing though. The 1.5"x3.5" wood is labeled 2x4... if it's not 2"x4", why is it called a 2x4?

Okay when I unplug the RCA cable (for the rear speakers) from the amp, the engine noise goes away. It's a Tsunami Elite Series V10-20 cable... the same one that I have for the front speakers going to the same amp.

ground the rcas to the head unit chassis..and try making a new separate ground for the head unit.

I see that the wood is burnt in places...what kind of saw blade are you using...with a good cut there shouldn't be any charring or burning at all

that is sooo wierd.my M44 used to do that.it can run the rear channels with or with out the rca's pluged in.

it turns out the amp was screwed down too tight.is yours?

try and swap the rca's.plug the rears to the fronts and visa-versa.

maybe the rears are shorted out somewhere?

Okay it's either the headunit or the amp. I switched the front and rear RCA's and I still got the noise, but when I unplug the rear channel RCA it goes away (no matter which RCA cable I use). The guy at my local stereo shop said he didn't have time to check it out but that I should try grounding the RCA cable to the headunit chassis like Azn said. When I take my headunit out I don't see any metal though. It's all plastic in there. I also can't get my headunit to fit in there all the way... it sticks out like 1/8" every time I try it... the 3 RCA's, ipod wire, harness, and some other wire take up way too much room back there. I also can't get the trim kit out. I didn't install that so I don't know how to get it out.

if the rcas themselves are whats causing the HU to stick out too far then try using some 90 degree rca adapters, worked perfect in my friends jeep.

I think it's more the harness... it has 2 separate massive adapters that clip into eachother... but I don't really know, because I can't see the problem when I'm stuffing a headunit in the dash lol.

the head unit should have some metal showing...I've never seen a HU that is fully encased in plastic. normally there is a screw in the rear heat sink that you can use

My bad, I wasn't talking about the headunit chassis ground. I was trying to say that when you pull the headunit out and look inside the dash it's all plastic, so I wouldn't know where to make a new headunit ground. I can do the RCA ground.

What I'm doing for my HU ground is just making a new ground somewhere on the floorboard and running the wire up behind the HU. Maybe even run the ground to the battery.

Where does the headunit ground plug into on the headunit?

into the ground wire from the harness

and which one is that? lol

Okay...I unplugged ALL the RCA's and my ipod AUX wire from my headunit, turned the key forward (radio comes on but not engine), put the headunit on mute, pressed the gas, and I hear a high frequency go up and down in unison with my gas pedal through the speakers.

I took my whole headunit and trim kit out so I could work on this better... that and place the wiring harness in a different spot back there because it's so big and bulky that when I normally slide my headunit into the trim kit I can't get it 100% of the way in. So does this mean it's the headunit ground? If so, which wire on the wiring harness is that?

it's usually the head unit ground, try not to make it too long and use descent thickness of wire. I noticed in your past thread you said you have a ground running down one side of your car? If so why??// lol and that would be part of the problem. That engine whine noise is definetly a ground wire problem.

I'd just use 16 gauge or 12 gauge for the head unit ground...doesn't really matter if its long or not...if you think about it the ground wire in the harness is actually pretty long itself

if you think some more..the whole chassis is a long ground!

No my amp ground is on the side of my trunk. The metal below my amp rack is my gas tank lol.

Using the original cars ground in the harness for the deck usually causes problems in my experience anyways.
