Ok...well today between my morning and afternoon classes I installed my new Pioneer Premier DEH-P590IB pretty nice...I really like it...plenty of controls. I installed a crappy lanzar 2 channel "600 watt max" amp...its fused at 20 amps so I'd guess around 80-100 watts rms. I wired the two left speakers in parallel to the amp and the same for the right...No fade control but doesn't really matter. Set the gain and even for a crappy amp it does the job decently...the kenwood 6x8's in the doors get HELLA LOUD. I mean it can get loud enough to hurt my ear...I never knew these speakers could get that loud and not distort. The difference between head unit power and external amp power is amazing...granted the speakers are getting around 20-25 watts rms the loudness, clarity, and dynamics are simply amazing. I can't wait until I get a real amp for these speakers....I was planning on getting some eD components but I am starting to fall in love with these speakers. The midbass and mids are much better...soooo dynamic and i can hear a lot of stuff that i couldn't hear with the speakers powered from a deck. I've found out that most head units have overexaggerated bass output...before when these speakers where ran off deck power they would start to distort and sound like crap because of no crossovers...even now with the amp running full range the speakers still get loud and not distort to anywhere near where they used to. Now I just need some serious deadening and make some baffles for the speakers so they have a solid mount. I think everyone who loves music should get an amp for there speakers. Also from my previous install which was a rush job with a friend...i need to separate the rcas from the power wire and move the remote lead to the other side cuz i get some alternator whine...its annoying but i just turn the volume up where the sound cannot be heard anymore lol...it really bugs me. Also need to make a new HU ground and wire up the relay for the amps and accessories like fans
Well my first head unit was a 150 dollar alpine...there third from the bottom of the line hu...then i had an old crappy pioneer deh-3600 from a friend. Now I have this. The kenwoods seem to be taking the 25 watts rms easily...they seem like they can take even more clean power...I can hear the amp being overdriven when i crank it up...these kenwoods are surprising...i think they are rated at like 30-40 watts rms...I might redo the crossover for the tweeters though...they get quite harsh at high volumes
The Pioneer Ipod interface is pretty good too. Personally I think all the speakers should be amped. This way we get the most out of them. In my truck, nothing is on deck power. If you ever get out to a wrecking yard (junk yard or salvage yard what ever they call them) check out the 88 or 89 T birds, they have factory baffles on the rear speakers.
I was talking about the baffles that go behind the speakers. And your talking about what to mount the speakers to. Sorry.
