Im no master at car audio at all. Im a beginner wanting to blow away the rest of the cars at my schools car show. I've got a 92 Ford Probe and i have installed all new speakers and a new head unit myself but I need subs.

The local car audio store mainly sells memphis audio and i'm pretty sure thats what I want.

I plan on getting 10 or 12 inch(12 preferrably, if theres room) Memphis mojos or m3's. There main sound guy says they be able to put out alot. He also says because they build the boxes custom fit to my car and they are ported just for the type and size that I get and he says they are able to hook up a CD or something telling the perfect hz for them to be played at, allowing me to add about 20 Db's based on what I play. TRUE???

Im expecting $350 to $500 for the subs and another $150 for the custom box and im not sure about the amp(s) yet.

I'll need at least 150 Db's to even compare.
Last years winner got 168 turned half way up and a person i know says his is about equall.

I know I asked alot but please help:

Will the subwoofers stand up to the competion?
Will the tuning(or whatever) really add about 20 Db's?
Would 2 10 inch or 12 inch M3's make me win or come close?

i have 4 13.5" jl audio w3v3s in a custom built box made to the specifics of the subs built by pros got 1 jl 1000/1 running them and my car hits 149.6 db which is a ford explorer. i sat in a yukon XL that had 2 15" mojos and 1 memphis 4kw and he was hitting 155+ and his car is bigger than mine. the mojos are a real nice sub.

168 is really loud. I am assuming that the cars windshield has been replaced with Lexan. I would also assume that at that level, all holes have been sealed up and the roof was seriously reinforced. The roof in my van had 3/4 inch MDF glued to the roof.

My van had 10,000 watts and it did a legal 162.8. Outlaw rules (I could put the mic where I wanted) I could get a 168. But not a legal 168.

150's is possible in a daily driver, 160's might be possible but not likely. By the way, I've replaced my windshield more times than I care to admit.

Gaining 20db by tuning an amp???Dang, and 168 is strong.....and expensive if true.

The Memphis M3s ported would work out good for you. The problem you may run into with the MOJOs is that they require an enormous box which prolly wont fit. Also the MOJOs take a lot og RMS to really get them going, where as the M3s will get a full flex off of 500 true watts RMS(per sub). But definately port the box for SPL, and let us know what your wanting to spend on an amp. I myself prefer nothing but the JL amps, but thats just me.

This is what it takes to get to 168

Four Planet Audio Class D amps rated at 2250 watts into 1-ohm. Two amps are paired together in a Master/Slave configuration giving them over 5000-watts combined into 1-ohm. And the four batteries is just enough juice for only a few seconds before the voltage drops. I should have had a minimum of 8 batteries.

I was at a different audio and music store today and they didnt have as good of a selection but their prices were great. They had these Audiobahn subs with 550 watts RMS and only $99 bucks when i got home and checked out their site... online it said if i mensioned the ad they were only $69 each. Now instead of waiting 2 months til right before the comp i want to enter i might be buying them tomarrow. They also had a 1800 watt kenwood refurb amp for only $250. I'll still need a box, probanbly have it custom built and ported for the extra sound but im excited.

My price range for amps is probably $200-$300 inpersonb and $75-$250 online but i dont want any old amp its got to have atleast 90 sound to noise ratio.

Has anyone heard that Audiobahn is closing/ not quite going out of buisiness and getting a new name? Thats what the guy at the store said and why the subs are so cheap.

I may sound dumb but whats kife mean?
Why does everyone say audiobahn is so bad?
Ive heard people on here say audiobahn is worse than kicker or other crap at circuit city but i personally always thought that kicker was crap.

kife meaning bottom of the barrel lol. If your on a budget, the way i see it is audiobahn is at the bottom, kicker is next, if you can get into the kicker square subs they are sweet, the L5 and L7s Then infinity is next then MTX which makes some serious subs and they can take a beating. That's probably what you will find at circuit city. I guess the FI subs would be next they look very nice but i have never heard or used them. Oh and let's not forget Elemental Designs, i have an 18 inch by them and it kicks everyones ass lol.

It may seem like I change my mind a lot but i went back to the original audio store i went to in my area and i found a hard hitting Pioneer Premier set in a ported box for only $340 and they were 2 12" with 800 rms each and for $450 i could get the next step and get 2 12" Premiers with 1000 rms each with the box. It will be another month before ive got the cash just for them and it will be awhile before i can afford the amp(s), capaciter and wiring kit. I guess i cant enter this years competition at my school but next year ill blow away the competition.

    What model Premiers??

I'd rather buy the subs separate and burn that box to the ground

They are the Pioneer Premier TS-W3001D2(or D4) depending on the how i want to wire them. I heard the step down TS-W2501D2 with 800 rms each and they hit hard. They were standing up to subs for like $350 more. The place builds all their own custom, ported boxes.
