    1. Well I started off just as dumb as I wanted to be, with some complete trash from Best Buy. To make it worst, I didn't know about amps, so I disconnected my 6x9's in my 1995 Jimmy then ran them to the subs, lol. I can't believe I was happy with that 5watt thump for a good 25 seconds.

    2. After my uncle cussed me out about buying those subs, I "moved up" with these, which I quickly busted with a PPI a600 amp.

    3. Passed on to me by my uncle who saw the light with JL Audio, these subs lasted a while, but they too, met their demise from the PPI amp.

    4. Finally I began to achieve car audio (atleast with the commercial brands) greatness. My hearing was still pretty good, so 600w RMS banged enough for me. I wish I could still say the same. This was in 2005 and only one of those subs have gone under since. This was in my 94 Thunderbird.

    5. Sealed wasn't giving me the SPL I wanted, so I took out the rear 6x9's for a "trunk port" and let the w3's go to work. This was in my 03 Impala.

    6. So I'm riding down the street and all of a sudden some guy in a newer Chevy Monte Carlo comes down a side street and shakes my car with his bass. He COMPLETELY drowns out my measly 600w and I'm devastated. I immediately start making threads, lol, and this is what I ended up doing....getting another w3 which brought me up to 900w rms.

    7. I had to get another amp and upon bumpin' my 3 jl's for a the 2nd day on the 3rd hour, one of my v2's froze up. I was CRUSHED. It had a good life though, but that big ol' old JL logo on the front was so sexy to me. I've had that thing for 2 years. The warranty was only for 1 year, but my dealer gave me a new v3 for $150 which wasn't too bad...right?

7 steps in futility .......... only to realize that it's not the subs......it's my ears and the crap that's in them that makes me think I need to upgrade every freakin' Sunday. I miss my great hearing at the age of 14, when 300w would have been just fine.

So now, I'm already thinking of 2008 (I'm riding with these JL's for atleast another year). Jl Audio and Hifonics haven't done me wrong yet so I want to stick to those brands. Not because I think they're the best, but they're the best I've heard and had experience with.

In terms of Bang for ur buck.....let's talk TWO 13w7's @ 1000w RMS. Those things are like......$700-800 from a dealer and maybe 600+ on the net. That's $1600 just for subs. Maybe $500+ for an amp or two to push them and God knows how much the enclosure and electrical upgrades will be.

    IS IT WORTH IT?

At this point you need to figure out that the subs are not the problem. The only way to blow that many woofers in such a short period of time is clipping the amp. Is the gain on your amp turned all the way up? Turn it down. The gain control is not a volume control. Also the bass knob on the radio, it don't need to cranked all the way up. No woofer is safe with those settings, regardless of what they are rated at.

Not one of those subs should have had any problem handling only 600 watts. Your choice of subs is not the problem

So if you want more bass, the gain control is not the answer. General rule is if your over 2/3 on your gain control and you dont have enough bass, then get a bigger amp and add more speakers. Leave the bass boost and gain control alone.

Would I waste my money on W7's? NO!!!! With your settings they would be ruined in just a couple of days (and JL does not warranty any of their products unless it comes from a dealer, no internet warranties)

So what model is your amp?

When you get ready many of use here will help you design a proper box that will help you get plenty of bass. What kind of car do you have?

    yeah.what he said.lol

most of it has to do with the box.i've heard cheap ass subs in a good box do some impresive numbers in comps.

6 40$ lanzar 12's with around 200 watts each did an impresive 143 db's.not bad in my book.

    for cheap subs that is.

lol, I know the gain rules. I know the bass settings from the HU....trust, I am not THAT new to this. My hu has a subwoofer output -6 to 6, it's currently at -4. My gain on the amp is @ 1/2. I have a Brutus 1606D. I've blown that many subs over.......5 years. It's not like I started this summer. The first few were just because I had that PPI amp doing 300w on some 150w subs. Charged it to ignorance and kept it moving. I've had 3-4 or four different amps since I started, I'm sure I clipped the signal on the earlier ones. I didn't blow the amps, but when I want more power, I just give the old ones away and buy new joints.

I bought all my JL audio subs from A DEALER (cartunesstereo.com in Michigan), thus the warranty that I spoke of. I have a Chevy Impala and an enclosure that was BUILT TO SPECS via the JL audio website for a sealed box (product manual for my subs). That first JL audio amp blew because the subs were wired for a lower load than I thought, thus sending more power.

Remember.....5 YEARS....is how I went thru those.....I've only had one blow in 2 1/2 years, so I know what I'm doing.

I just want more SPL, like WAY more. I guess that would have to do with wattage and excursion of the subs. I need that......can't breathe in the back seat bass.

if you want more bass.then i think a larger sub would be in order.15's or 18's.

If you got 1500 watts rms output at 1.3 or 2.6 ohms

Well in that case please accept my apology.

So the only thing left is we need more speakers. That should do it. And lets see what happens if we build a box with a little different tuning and a slightly bigger port. Maybe???
