Ok well here is the deal, I'm pretty new with car systems and all and diddn't really start looking into them until a few months ago. I'm looking for some help from people that know about this stuff, thats why I came here.

I have a 97 Chevy Lumina and I just recently upgraded out of the stock speakers and got 4x new Pioneer 5 ΒΌ" 2-Way Speakers.

I will be getting Two 12" Eclipse SW61248XD's subs from someone for free and will also be getting a Eclipse EA2000 2/1 Channel Amp with it.

The specs on the Subs look like this:

    SW61248XD 12" Specs:
    o Model - SW61248XD
    o Size (In.,CM) - 12, 30.5
    o Impedance (OHMS) - 4 Dual Coil
    o Max Rec Amplifier Power (WATTS PEAK / RMS) - 1000 / 500 watts
    o Peak Power Handling - 1000 Watt
    o Frequency Response - 28 Hz - 250 Hz
    o Sensitivity - N/A
    o Woofer Material - Aluminum
    o Surround Material - Santoprene
    o Top Mounting Depth - N/A
    o Bottom Mounting Depth - N/A
    o Mounting Diameter / Length - N/A
    o Weight - 15lbs each

And the specs on the amp:

    o Digital Hybrid Power Capacitor
    o 25 Farad
o Digitial Blue Display (Amperage/Voltage Meter)
    o Blue LED Lights
    o Low Profile Mounting System
    o Chrome Mounting Brackets
    o Working Voltage : 16DCV
o High current, high efficiency MOSFET power supply
    o ?Easy Tune? top-mounted controls
o Sleek, low-profile design with front mounted input and output terminals
    o Variable 30-500 Hz 18 dB high-pass crossover
    o Variable 50-500 Hz 18 dB low-pass crossover
o Variable 0-8 dB Bass Boost
    o Flush-mount wire terminals
o Illuminated Eclipse logo power indicator
    o Clipping indicator LED
    o Amplifier Type: 2-channel
    o RMS Power @ 4 Ohms: 60W x 2 @ 14.4V
    o THD at 4-Ohm RMS Power: 0.05%
    o Bridged RMS Power @ 4 Ohms: 175W x 1 @ 14.4V
    o Speaker Level Inputs: no
    o Preamp Outputs: yes
    o Built-In Crossovers: HP/LP
    o Bass Boost: 18 dB
    o Frequency Response: 20-20,000 Hz
o Signal to Noise Ratio: >90 dB
    o Fuse Rating: 30 amps

Now I have a few questions:

1.) Are these subs/amps of good quality?

2.) Is the amp that I'm getting going to be able to power the subs nicely or should I get a new one? I'm not really looking to spend money on a new one so I'd like to stick with this one if I could.

3.) Will I need to get another amp to power the speakers inside the car? I'm really not sure how it works but I've heard it's better to hook your speakers and subs up to amps to make it sound better?

4.) Not sure if this quesiton belongs here, but would a new (better) altornator improve the performance of this system? Right now my car lights flicker even without the system hooked up yet, so I figured it could be the alternator going bad and once I hook up the subs and amp it would probably make them flicker even worse.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and remember I'm a newbie to this so try and keep your words simple!

The amp is a little weak for subs, but a great amp for your front speakers. Eclipse is good equipment so hang on to what you have.

As far as an amp for your subs, I really would wanna see alot more power. Now your suds have dual 4-ohm coils which means that you are not limited on your selection of amps. Your subs can be wired 1-Ohm (class D Amp) or 4-Ohm (conventional amp)

So lets see if we can get to the 800 watt range RMS or more

    Azn will be around shortly.

    here I am....whats up

Eclipse makes some nice quality equipment.

I would use that amp for the interior speakers.

As for an amp for the subs...depends on how much money you want to spend. If you want to spend anywhere between 300-400 dollars I would recommend the Elemental Designs Nine.1 amp.

    Elemental Designs

Puts out plent of power...capable of feeding that sub 900 watts...you'll have headroom so the sub will get clean power.

Why this amp?? Because I like eD and I have this amp right now...great quality amp. Good power. Good warranty.

As for the voltage issues...I would start with upgrading your big three.

    What vehicle is this???

As for the box...I'll let Electro plug those numbers...unless someone else wants to to chime in.

    I'm out for the night...peace

Ah ok, yea I think I'm going to keep the amp I have now for my front speakers.

Hmmm ok, I'll look into that sub. The price isn't really a problem but I was kind of hoping to be able to stay under $300. Someone told me a Orion D2400 BNIB would be real good for the price to make these subs sound good. What do you think?

Also, what do you mean by upgrading the "big three"? I'm guessing that has to do with the alternator and some other things in the car to help the sound system run correctly? It's a 97 Chevy Lumina, so I figured I might need to upgrade some things in it if I want to run a good system.

    Thanks
