noob witha question?

    alright, so i recently got a 90' toyota 4runner. it had x4 infinity's with an old Kenwood deck. it all sounded like crap.
    just switched out that deck with this one:

    it enhanced the sound a little bit, but my infinity's seem to be pretty much crap. then again, im expecting some bass. perhaps their better for the hi's?
    anyway, was browsing around this forum and a few people mentioned these 6x9's for bass:

    i have no real interest to get a sub, box, and an amp. and i realize i'd be an idiot to think i'd get full performance from any speaker without an amp.
    (which i may get later on).
    but for now, i just want some good reliable speakers for less than $100 that could put out some solid bass.

    I don't think the 4runners have 6x9s...but I'm not 100% sure either

    yeah, i didnt think that either. but, the guy at Circuit City explained to me that i CAN go higher in size, but not lower.

    AZN is right. 6 x 9 probably won't fit.

    so i guess with that said, to get any sort of bass. i have to get a sub?

    Yes, there is no way that a 4-inch or a 5-inch is gonna make bass. Here is what I would do, if your not looking for crazy loud bass and wanna save money then a single 10 in a ported box (you build the box if possible) and a 200 to 400 watt RMS amp should do the trick.

    But first I would fix your speakers that you said didn't sound good. Replace them with any reasonable quality speaker and get some 99-microfarad capacitors for each speaker. I don't like the little bass blockers, they suck. Once you do that then work on the sub

    is something like that possible? and would provide some bass if i put 2 in the trunk?

    if not, then i was thinking a single 10" TC woofer or 12" since they apparently dont have 10's in stock. and, i'd run down to Best Buy/Circuit City and get a single 12" box? i honestly have NO idea how to make one.

    as for the amp, could you provide a link to what you'd reccomend i get? again, looking for something cheap, but, reliable.

    While I am sure that, that speaker can make bass, I don't think it can in the vehicle. In order for any speaker to make Bass it needs to be mounted to something really solid. If its mounted to sheetmetal or a plastic panel, then it cannot make bass. Whatever its mounted to will need to be reinforced.

    I'm not sure what Circuit City or Best Buy carries, so if you wanna make a list of amps, I'm sure everyone will weigh in with their opinions.

    One more thing, the link you have is for a 5-1/4-inch woofer, it may not fit the stock location with out some modification

    OK, I like the box and speaker. That should work well. Because the TC10 is ported it should work well with a small amount of power. So any amp around 200 - 300 watts RMS should do well.

    I wonder if we could make a better choice for speakers. I've heard of Morel, excellent speaker but a little pricey. I've also heard of Dayton, but I don't if its the best choice for you. I'll think about it

    I wonder if 5-1/4-inch will fit?????????????????

    Here is what I would suggest. 5-inch speakers are hard to find, lets go with 5-1/4. If you order a speaker from Crutchfield, it will include an adapter bracket free of charge.

    If price is important (it is in most cases) choose the Pioneer TS-G1341R or the Kenwood KFC-1361S. Both are reasonably priced and should perform well. If your budget is a little bigger, they have a wide selection and you don't have to hunt down an adapter bracket

    Don't forget the capacitors. 99 microfarad non polars. These will be the bass blockers.

    Here's what i found out from crutchfield. I don't know if your 4runner is a 2 door or a 4 door.

    4 door
    Dash 4"
    Rear Door 5"
    Back Panel 5 1/4 or 6 1/2

    2 door
    Dash 4"
    Back Panel 5 1/4 or 6 1/2

    Ranger is right, 5" are not very easy to find. You don't have a lot of chioces. Better to go with the 5 1/4.

    so, i suppose it would be easier to just stick with my infinity's and get a sub. afterall, my infinity's provide great hi's. so it'll be a good balance.

    remember, i'm going for something cheap, but reliable. AND, with solid sound.

    and would all this be hard to install for a beginner? or does crutchfield provide a great installation guide that will do the job for me? if not, i'll have to pay the extra 50 or so bucks for installation. and yes, i know i need to get cables as well.

    I would not recommend neither that sub nor that amp.

    That sub sucks balls...I don't care about how it sounds...the build quality is flea market ranked.

    Amp...you can get better quality and reliability for less.

    Solid sound?? What kind of sound?? What kind of music do you listen to?? Solid sound is anything

    I've worked on the older model yotas...they are fairly easy to work on....everything is screwed together and what not.

    hmmm, didn't know that. like to hear how much bass they can put out. I always thought that at that size it was always midbass. Guess i'm wrong.... AGAIN. LOL

    solid sound meaning.. i didnt want a sub to begin with. i listen to rock, punk, ska, smooth jazz, country, metal, classic rock, and underground hip hop.

    thus, i have NO interest in paying any sort of fortune for a sub that i'd really only enjoy for about 30-40% of my music. not looking to turn heads. but, also tired of listening to my infinity's struggling to make bass.

    and i'm quite suprised. i've always thought rockford was a great name in car audio. or, is their comp. subs the only good thing they make?

    anyway, if you could provide me a good 10" for a cheap price on crutchfield, please insert the link in your next post.
