Hey Azn This box has a bigger port than yours, how does 18 x 8 sound. Well I'm gonna find out, It will go into a Chev Tahoe next week. Total volume of this box, minus the port is 9 cu ft. Finally got my new camera
Its for 2 15-inch woofers. The plan is a 1250- watt RMS class D amp. The actual output will be a little less because of the 2-ohm load. But still, just over 900-watts RMS. It will be annoying loud. I dont have the right color carpet in stock, but it is on order, I should get it in Tuesday.
Jeezus christ....I want that box!!!!!! What is it tuned to?? I'm guessing around 40Hz because Ranger built it??? Holy Port area...that is a nice box Ranger
Azn, you're getting pretty good at knowing me. Its actual tuning is 42. So your close enough. The speakers will be Planet Audio Big Bang. I'm also building a much more reasonable sized ported down fire for a Suburban. He said he did not want it cover, just bare wood. He said he throws stuff in the back of his truck. It will use 2-12 inch PowerBass Woofers. We started carring the PowerBass Woofers, I like them more than the Planet Woofers.
I really don't know, we just started carrying them. In fact we just got some Speakers in yesterday. But I have had some experience with their M and S series subwoofers. So far they have performed extremely well. I have two older models in my sons car and they HIT HARD. So far I have been very pleased with the base model subs.
Ranger...Today I installed a a little system in my friends 2 door Explorer, my favorite vehicle to work on cuz everything is so easy to me cuz I have one lol it consisted of a Pioneer 5900 head unit and two sets of Infinity Reference 6x8's...sounded pretty good after getting it all in...cept they prolly would sound better if I made some mdf baffles and poly bagged em and use some rope caulk to seal in real good...but he just wanted a basic install nothing fancy Well I decided I needed some new tools...So I went over to Lowe's and picked up some Klein Crimpers, butt connectors, and some zip ties. Well...I love my new Klein crimper. It definitely makes things a lot easier and they are really comfortable. I was gonna skimp and get some 8 dollar crimpers that were like GB tools or something like that but then I spotted the Kleins and was like.....Hmmm I want those. Quality is great...i love em Now I just need to persuade him to let me build him a new box. Right now he has a couple 12 inch Type R's in a prefab sealed box prolly around 1 cu ft per sub...I'm pretty sure I can make a ported box with a huge port that will rape the sealed box...but I wanna do this with only one of the Type R's and for payment give me the other one so I can have lol Ranger you think one Type R in a 3 cu ft enclosure tuned to 40hz with a 14 x 5 inch port be louder than two Type R's in a sealed box with 1.25 cu ft per driver???? Anyone else??? Oh yeah and he will only have about 600 watts total to work with sorry if this is thread jacking but I'm just excited cuz I got a new crimping tool haha
I don't care, jack all you want. One Speaker in a box that size should be plenty loud. It will be louder than the two in a sealed. If loud becomes the main concern, remember to turn the bass boost on the amp up, then adjust the gain. We need to take advantage of the port. Most Bass boost work in the 40-45 Hz range. This way we make the port work for us. If sound Q is more of a concern turn the bass boost no more than half way up. Now for power, big ports are power hungry. Do you have 600 watts RMS or 600 Peak. 600 RMS will work great. 300 RMS will be acceptable but we would not be pushing the box to its potential.
I have nothing to add as far as Audio-Speak. But, I can speak volumes on quality tools, and how they make ones job easier in any trade one chooses.
I cannot agree more. In an earier thread Azn was talking about Blue Point or Snap On. Both are great quality, but the Kleins have a much better bite for crimping. I have use alot of different crimpers but nothing beats a Klein.
I have kleion and blue point, the advantage of the kleins is the fact that they have a physically smaller crimp point, which exerts greater PSI onto the crimp point. I liie my blue points for comfort over the kleins however and generally use them in any crimp job. We all have our persanal preferences....
well the amp is a JL 500/1 and from what i've heard they put put more than 500 watts rms...I've even heard they have been tested to put out around 700 watts rms...but 100% certainty is not there but I trust JL
