How thick should the MDF be?

I myself would use 1/2" plywood....it is easy to handle, easy to cut.....You can get a nice 1/2" 4x8 sheet of ply that is sanded on both sides for under $20.00 I believe.....That is what I bought for my amp rack.....Or you can use particle board.....Just stay away from OSB.....it can be weird to drill and cut due to all the chunks of wood pressed together in the layers....and if you paint it, you will see all the uneven parts of it....All these panels were made from particle board

Well they didn't have plywood that was cheap enough to be worth buying, so I got a big sheet of 3/4" MDF for 20 bucks. They didn't have 1/2" MDF or plywood that was sanded. I also bought a black and decker jigsaw for 30 bucks.

I think I'm going to make a false floor to hide the spare tire underneath...

I'm going to put the spare on the lowest part of the trunk like in the picture, and cut a piece of MDF (or two hinged together if it can't fit through the trunk opening) and lay it down across the tire and the edges will lay on the side shelves and go all the way to the very sides of the trunk. And I'll carpet it of course. Then the subwoofer box will go on top of that. I may need to make some sort of supports underneath the false floor because of the weight of the sub box though.

I may also build a vertical carpeted MDF wall to hide the big shelf, seatback, and amp. Eventually I'd probably mount the amp on the wall and have the wires go through it, but I don't feel like buying all new wires because the existing ones wouldn't be long enough.

is that big ass chain to keep the trunk closed so no one else can rip you off?

Well I cut the false floor tonight. It's two pieces that meet in the center. Went okay, but theres a couple spots on the sides where the edges don't sit exactly flush with the walls. Is there something I can glue to the edges of the MDF floor to make it sit more flush?

Here's the basic layout of what I'm currently doing... I'll probably wedge a piece of MDF in between the top of the tire and the spot where the 2 pieces of the floor meet.

Well I finished the false floor this morning, I just have to carpet it. I'm going out to get the carpet today... I'll post some pics of the floor once it's been carpeted.

I think I'm going to order some edead tonight... how much should I order to do the entire trunk and lid?

Well you can cut a 4 inch wide strip of wood as long as the center line of the two boards and glue and screw half of it underneath one false floor boards so the other one sits on top of it...then screw the other board down to strip...just an idea.

Well your trunk is big so I'd get like 50 sq ft...if you have extra another layer won't hurt or do the back deck as it prolly resonates and vibrates

My car rattles, resonates, and vibrates right now even when the stereo isn't on... they don't tell you that when you get dual straight pipes on a 4.6L V8 lol. My door panels, quarter panels, mirrors, etc all rattle just from the exhaust. I told my neighbor (whose done a crap load of customizing to his volvo) about it. This was his answer... "When your exhaust is too loud that can only mean one thing... you need a louder stereo" lol. It's a shame, hes really into customizing too but he's always off at college. He does fiberglass, plexiglass walls, etc.

I went out to get carpet tonight and I went to three places with no success. The place I always go to get carpet ran out. I went to another place, they were closed. Then finally I went to the last place and they said they couldn't sell me it... all 3 were car stereo shops.

I think I'm going to order like 100 sq. feet of the edead... then see how much more I need.

I'll go take some pictures of my false floor.

    Still need to carpet it.

The 2 pieces rest on a piece of wood laying on top of the tire... they're not attached to it.

    Support legs.

I had a difficult time cutting the MDF to sit flush with the strangely curved sides.
