I really do like those kenwoods...but I'm soon getting an ED 9.1

Damn this thread needs more useless posts lol

Do you think it could really put out 900 watts at 2 ohms?

kenwood has been around a long time.so i'm sure it is.hell about 15 years back when car audio cost more than it does today,i bought a kenwood amp.it was very small.like 18x2 or something.anyways had it running 4 speakers.it did a fine job for 3 years.finally sold it for a larger amp.

If it really is 900 watts then that's one hell of a deal. What do you guys think about that hifonics BX1205D going for $175?

Hey are you guys sure I'm not supposed to have 2 wires plugging into the remote terminal of the amp? I swear there's two wires in the picture of my old amp.

2 wires for the remote turn on???? well if you have 2 amps it makes sense...otherwise NO, it just needs one.....

The red and blue are not like a twisted pair are they?? Did you have some other component somewhere that would be triggered off that wire? I know when I did my last two systems, I wired in a relay and used the remote wire to activate it....I used the relay to power up a couple fans to cool the amps.

As far as that Kenwood putting out 900 watts?? I don't know....I do know this. My Blaupunkt amp was able to do 150 bridged....I had that running my sub for a long time....Last night I swapped it out and put this Kenwood in place....I got to really listen to it on my way to work this morning (40 min. drive)....It can EASILY give me so much sub it will bury the frt. and rear speakers...I am running it at 3 ohms...Now the HU is powering factory frt. & rear speakers...Full bandwidth power is rated at 22 wattsx4....When I finally get my Infinity's installed and run them off the Blaupunkt (150x2) I will be able to push this thing more.....I have a lot to do and I am gonna get started after New Years.....first.....I gotta upgrade big three.....I want to dynamat the truck...I need to fine tune my rear board for mounting amps, x-overs, distro...Mount everything on it, paint it....I need to pull the rear seat and all trim off to install rear speakers and dynamat....

Right now I am very happy with the sound of my truck....I know for a fact that the right rear speaker has issues (when I isolate it and run music at low volume...it is fuzzy) and the woofer in the right front door does the same thing (factory speakers)......If I turn volume up to 3/4 and have everything balanced, it sounds really really good.....Right now I am probably only pushing 100 watts at peak times out of this Kenwood amp for the sub.....I got the fader 80% frt. and I am only running HU power and the sub.....I got pretty decent volume with just that....When I am all outboard amp and aftermarket speakers, tweaked, truck dynamatted, I should be ecstatic with the sound I get....

Those kenwoods are a little overrated but will do close to rated power...I'd rather go for the Kenwood over the Hifonics...I'm sure the Kenwood will sound better.

Hifonics is overrated also...and they rate at 14.4 volts so I highly doubt you'll be able to sqeeze out 1200 watts at 1 ohm

Right now I've got the dual 4 ohm voice coil CVR running off the 400.1. If I were to upgrade in the future, which do you think would be better...

Get one dual 4 ohm voice coil CVR and another 400.1 to power it 400 at 2 ohm....or....get two dual 2 ohm voice coil CVR's and that kenwood amp to power them like 800 at 2 ohm?

my old school hifonics vulcan is rated at 50x2 from 10V to13.8V.its regulated.man that amp would run all day long.never gave me a prob.EVER!!

if the new ones are like the older ones. it should put out some power.

In the future if I were to build a sealed box for three cvr12's... what would be the best volume for each sub? Kicker recommends 1- 4.6 ft cubed.

Why does everyone want three subs???

It won't be much louder than 2 CVR's in a good ported box. I don't see much gain from having the same amp but just adding a third sub...the ohm load would be higher and each sub would be gettin even less power

no no... the only way I'd get 2 more subs would be if I bought that kenwood amp to power them.

    cvr12 (1) 4 ohm voice coils- powered by 400.1 (400 at 2 ohm load)
    cvr12 (2) 2 ohm voice coils- powered by KAC-9152D (900 at 2 ohm load)

Well, the biggest box I can comfortably fit on the flat part of my trunk (before it slopes up a little bit in the front) and still keep my spare tire is 39" wide, 21" deep, and 14" tall... 5.29 cubes.

The biggest box I can comfortably fit on the flat part of my trunk and ditch the spare tire is 39" wide, 21" deep, and 21" tall...8.25 cubes.

I could probably build some crazy shaped box and get a lot more than 5.29 cubes and keep my spare if I really wanted to.

Well why did you suggest you having three subs???

I don't know, I'm just babbling about future upgrades...even though I know once I hear the single CVR I won't need more subs.

What I am thinking about doing though is cutting like a 1/4" thick piece of MDF to go all the way from the back of the backseats to the very front of the trunk, basically resting across that shelf and across the top of the box, and cutting it to fit perfectly on the strangely shaped sides of the trunk. Then I'd carpet it. It would basically be a false floor... not for security, just for a clean look and so I could put other small things in my trunk on top of it without worrying about them puncturing the sub. Would this make the sub sound weird?

Pardon these pictures....These are taken with my work digital camera....(stores on floppy)....these are pictures of pictures and kinda grainy....

This is the last car I had a system in...This is the trunk of my Bonneville....These are my C12 Kickers....Box and all the false floor and trim pieces that go from the box edges to the trunk, I built...Crossovers on the right are for my front stage (6" lanzar mid bass, 4" Kenwood mid, 1" kenwood tweets)....Left side was distro.....Amps are Kenwoods....Inside the false floor there are two fans running to cool amps....
