Hi, I have a problem with lights dimming when the bass hits. I am using a JBL amp that is putting out 290W RMS to one Sony Xplode 12". I also have a 1.2 farad VooDoo capacitor to help out in the power. But I would think that my lights would stop dimming due to the help of the capacitor. The gauge of wire I am using from the battery to a distribution block in the trunk is a 5 gauge then down to a 6 gauge to the cap. The ground wire is a 6 gauge wire. I am not sure why my lights are still dimming! PLease let me know what I can do to help stop this. Thanks
First of all I hate caps so I would take that thing out for sure. Next, .. you are using 5 ga and 6 ga wire? thats an odd size for car audio.. usually its 8ga or 4ga in the power ranges you are working with. 290 watts of rms power shouldn't be doing that at all. I mean honostly.. thats not a lot of power. Maybe your battery is old and busted.. go to Autozone and grab a Duralast Gold. You could always do the big 3 or do a 2nd battery but either of those is total overkill for 290 watts..
Yep. ditch the cap. They are a waste of money......Take your car in and have the battery load tested.........If its an older car. the alternator and/or regulator may be taking a dump also.
My car is a 2004 Monte Carlo Intimidator SS so the battery should be fine. I can't see it being the battery. Would it be that I need to move my ground wire? I have it going to one of the bolts on the strut tower in the trunk.

Well its obvious you bought the wires from Wal-Mart...the Scosche kit. Make sure your ground is good and secure...NOT GROUNDED UNDER A SEAT BOLT....find a clear place(sheet metal), sand it down to bare metal, and drill a hole and use a 3/8 to 1/2 inch bolt and nut
